Hi All, I was bidding on and won this '72 Explorer II on ebay and just realized it's got a MK7 service dial. How does this affect the value of the watch and was $9100 too much for this considering the dial? Any and all feedback would be appreciated! https://goo.gl/cQhgQI
Ditto on the service dial devaluation. Since these have become very trendy and expensive, there are lots of frankenwatch versions out there. I would, if I could, pay more for a totally original version.
Seller accepted that it should have been more accurately described in terms of the service dial, bezel and hands and was happy to unwind the sale. Onwards and upwards...think I'll be sticking to speedys and keeping MWO close to hand
@Don Bocadillo You should thank your lucky stars that the seller was reasonable and will issue a full refund because $9100 for that watch would have been money-not-well-spent.
The Jewelry store offing the watch was within driving distance so i'd planned on picking it up and paying cash so thankfully no money changed hands... But yes, i learned quite a lot about the 1655 over the last 12hrs... hahaha.....
Now...I would be tempted at getting at a better price and sourcing dial and hands... With those service parts you know it isn't a Franken. At $7k I would be tempted...totally tempted
Don. There is nothing wrong with original service parts as long as it's disclosed n the price is right. If all parts checked out authentic, it's a very wearable watch. There is no way u can get all original 1655 for that price even in 2008. [emoji15] If I were u, I would go down there with cash and negotiate the price down a grand or two. Then u got a winner. If u r lucky, u might find the right dial in the future. Of course make sure all parts r legit.
The seller sold the re-listed watch for $11.2k today...no mention in the description of the service parts on the watch...hope the buyer knew what they were doing
Hope they had an original dial, hands and bezel in their parts box...if so they could do quite well...I doubt that's the case though...
Vintage Rolex is a minfield. The 1655 has a lot of fake cases and parts. Hopefully the buyer did their research and knew what they were getting!
Service dial as already been said... i would never pay more than 6-7k for that watch with service dial.. its not that easy to get this kind of reference! Cheers
