    Hello!

I came across someone locally who is interested in selling his vintage Rolex.

I have limited knowledge for vintage Rolex but have been wanting to purchase one for a while now. Any advice would be helpful with this one.

Correct me if im wrong but to my untrained eye it looks to be a 1980's Rolex Datejust ref. model 16014. It also looks to be heavily buffed if im not mistaken. Any more info on this piece would be gladly appreciated.

Would this be a good first piece? We haven't discussed about price yet but he mentioned he's looking for around $3,000-3500.

Is the cost of repair for this watch going to be costly? Can I take it to a Rolex Service Center and have them service it considering that its a vintage watch?

    Thank you!

    Pictures are not very good.
The best thing is to remove the bracelet and look at the reference numbers on the case.
Also, take a better picture of the clasp blades, they look suspect..
Keep doing your homework, price is high..
Cost at an RSC is $700+, you would be better off going to an independent WM.

I just spoke with him online as of now. Will do an actual visual inspection of the watch sometime this week if I can. Will post better pictures after. Thank you!

keep an eye on the rolexforums for sale section. most recently ive seen a tt datejust go for as low as $2300. some go for a bit more with box and papers. around $25-$2700 in the age. $3-3500/$4000 area starting to look towards the 90s and even some more 2000s datejusts can be had.

Jubilee is stretched, hard to tell from the pictures how much of polishing this case has been trough.
Too high on the money, as people stated before.

I would but I live halfway around the world so shipping and import taxes would be expensive.

I would definitely look for a better example, unless you can get this one dirt cheap.
