I am searching for a simple GMT. New or used/vintage under $1000. 40mm or less, bracelet or strap. Something with the visibility and simplicity of an IWC. Prefer an automatic or manual. I've done loads of searching and have come up short. I imagine vintage is the way to go but my knowledge of vintage GMT's is nill. Any suggestions?

Are you not in search of a Seiko? Sorry I can't be more specific, ...but a GMT that offers bang for your buck, and vintage to boot.

Is it for the look, or do you regularly need to track more than one timezone - perhaps 2 or even 3 at a time?

If it's your current time and one other then either a three hander with a rotating 12 hour bezel or a 4 hander with no bezel will work.

For your current timezone and two other timezones I believe you'll need a 4 hander with a 12 hour bezel.

I'm a huge Seiko guy but I haven't seen any that ticked the boxes.

It's to track mutiple time zones, no more that two should do. I'm starting to travel a lot for work and a GMT function would make life easier.

I really like to look of this, Oak & Oscar Sanford GMT. But price and availability...

Take a look at the Seiko 6117-8000, GMT Navigator Timer. Some have been pictured here on OF in Seiko threads.

This article points out a potential flaw in the design https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/oak-and-oscar-sandford-gmt regarding the setting of the gmt function.

To be honest, for simple tracking of two timezones, a simple three hander with a rotating 12 hour bezel will do the job. I have a Magrette Dual Time for that job.

If I was going more exotic, I'd recommend an old style Glycine Airman Purist of some description. The Airman 18 comes in at 39mm.

More than 2 timezones and I'd be looking at my smartphone or something else electronic ;)

    Good luck with your search.

I often find myself playing with search terms on eBay just to see what comes up.

Try searching "GMT WATCH" put a limit of $1000 in, select automatic/manual movements only, and used.

Worldwide you get about 700 hits... a lot of junk but some interesting looking stuff in there... he says falling down the rabbit hole ;)

    Perhaps a Glycine Airman 2000? Three timezones...below $1K used.

I really like the look of the Magrette but I think it's too big for my wrist.

The brand and the quality is fantastic, I actually have one, but is very derivative to Rolex.

If you're willing to try 42mm then Hamilton do a Jazzmaster GMT for that sort of money.

Two dial colours and strap or bracelet.

I believe that one of the disadvantages/quirks of the Glycine 24 hour dial GMT models is that when you add the GMT hand, it occupies the position that would be normally occupied by the hour hand in a "purist" model. I stand to be corrected on this, but that's a limitation of the ETA 2893 movement upon which the Glycine 24 hour watches are based.

So in effect you will have either a proper 24 hour watch with no GMT hand or a sort of hybrid where the main hour hand works on a 12 hour cycle and the GMT hand runs on a 24 hour cycle.

The 2000 model shows how this can work, however, other GMT Glycines don't have such obvious 12 hour markings which can make them less easy to read at a glance.

I've had an Airman in 36mm, I've had to sell it because it was too small. The watch, though, is awesome
