Hi, would appreciate your thoughts on an Xmas/early 40th present for myself, to add to my current Tag Heuer Grand Calibre 6 WAV511A with blue/grey dial, 40mm.

Whilst I love the look of the current Aqua Terra with blue dial, it’s a bit too close to what I have now. I have also negotiated some heavier discounts on some older models (but fully new in the box), so my choices are:

    1. Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m, black dial with red gold on black leather alligator strap, calibre 2500, 42mm. 8k usd. Similar to current model below (Calibre 8501/ceragold bezel), which retails at around 26k usd.

    2. Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Cronograph GMT 44mm. White dial, 24hrs steel/black bezel with steel bracelet strap. 4K usd

    3. Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m 38.5mm, Calibre 8500, grey dial, red gold / steel bezel and strap. 4K usd. Similar to current 41mm model below retailing at around 11.5k usd. Admittedly this one is quite snug around my wrist with current strap, would think about changing it to a Nato brown leather or blue rubber

    4. Speedmaster Chronograph “Legend” Edition, Calibre 3301, 42mm. Either black main face with white outline and black bezel, or white main face with black outline and steel bezel. Both steel bracelet strap. 2.5k usd.

The first three all look good on the wrist, in different ways of course, and I will be wearing for business & leisure. The last option I haven’t managed to try on a similar watch, except current model all black/white dial Speedmasters which admittedly I like less.

Finally, whilst I appreciate that it’s impossible to say any watch will be a good investment, I would ideally like something that has more of a chance to keep its value vs the price I will pay - especially if I go for the first one (pre-owned this seems to go for 12-15k usd, whilst the AT with red gold/steel seems to go for around 5.5-7k Usd? - though the PO is an older calibre)

Any thoughts? - what might you choose for your first Omega if you had these to choose from!

Many thanks in advance for the suggestions/advice on anything else to consider.

First off, that Tag is cool!

Second, personally, I think that buying considering it’s investment/resale value is not something to consider (but many will disagree). Get something you will Iove to wear, period. As my avatar suggests, I have three “luxury” watches. I loved all three when I saw them on display, and then I loved all three when I tried them on. That’s why I bought them. I have had one for over 10 years and I still love wearing it (it’s in for service now and I am counting the days until it’s back!). Personally, of your options, I prefer either the AT chrono, or the final Speedy - but it doesn’t matter what I think, get the one you absolutely fall in love with when it’s on your wrist.

You have similar tastes as I do.

    1. Beautiful. Looks amazing.
    2. Dog. I was stoked about this one before it came out and wasn't impressed upon delivery. Sub-dials seem crowded and this was just before they moved to co-axial movements. The bezel feels cheap when rotating as well.
    3. Not bad but too much like your Tag in terms of wear.
    4. I always liked these two but never found them at a good price.

Thanks for the comments so far!

With the Seamaster PO Black/Red Gold Calibre 2500, one worry was whether it would be popular (in gold) and so relatively easier to sell later if I ever wanted after 3/5/10 years. I guess this suggests not :)

Would anyone know if 8k USD is a good price for it? I looked on Google and saw a few on Chronos24.com at 12-15k USD, whilst there is one on eBay at 18k USD. Anyone bought this kind of model recently or knows how much they go for? I am not necessarily looking to make money, but would prefer not to lose a big amount of cash.

Should I be concerned at all that it’s an older Calibre 2500?

Meanwhile I might take a look again at that last Speedy :)

$8K seems kinda low for a solid gold PO, even if it's the first-gen 2500 series. If you can get it for that price, that'd be the one I'd get out of all your other choices. Be careful out there and don't get scammed!

Good to know. How much would you normally expect for a new/unboxed solid red gold PO 2500 series? Is my 12k+ usd estimate reasonable? Lower? Higher?

Thanks! Same question, how much might you expect for a solid red gold PO 2500 series?

Eventually managed to grab the Seamaster PO in red gold for 8k usd, perfectly new/boxed with international 5 yr warranty.

Was still a tough decision vs the Seamaster Aqua Terra at half that price!
