I have no idea if his layout makes practical sense, but this video of Adam Savage building a watchmaker’s workstation is a delight to watch and the workstation gives hope to folks working/living in smaller spaces

Cool! I've been watching Mythbusters with my kid and man have I missed that show. I'm glad Adam has continued to make fun content.

Hmmm...

Not sure I like the dayglow green.

The mirror and the go pro are a bit weird as well. The whole thing looks too cluttered.

Personally I like my swing over microscope swapped from an electronics rework station.

Here is mine again. Cropped.

I applied for a position on the show. They were looking for modelmakers/Propbuilders. Surprisingly I never watched the show. Which I said would be my best qualification.

It is interesting how much the show became part of pop culture. At least in the steampunk world.

And yes, that is a Pipe organ pipe in the background corner.

I would definitely have chosen another colour

Made it through the whole vid. Loved the discourse on fonts. Strange to think that some 30 years ago I was Apple's font guru. The systems engineers, would see how many fonts could be loaded into the font menu. My adage was 'less is more.'

So now I understand it is some sort of East German Green. Not sure he got the right shade. The proper shade gave the name Green Room. It is supposed to be calming. Probably closer to teal, which to me looks blue.

My Prazi lathe is a sort of yellow color. Do not remember seeing much green in East Germany.

Surprised that it did not end with the lasercut font plate. These days creating fonts is easy with Fontforge. Used to do it by hand, then with Adobe Illustrator. Then convert the curves into the then not well known proprietary format. Parts of the fonts are encrypted.

I have been looking at watch fonts again. There is so much time and so little to do. Strike that, reverse it.

Super cool on several levels; is Adam wearing a Speedy, or am I imagining things… his watch looks vaguely familiar 😀

That is quite the role. I have a small collection of notable old Macintoshes, love the use of Garamond on the cases and Univers oblique on the keyboards back then. But the system fonts and Susan Kare's iconography were very cool for their time as well. Aesthetically, Apple were untouchable.

My grandfather used to work in publishing and used Apple Macs, which is the root of my interest. As I recall, he had a third party font manager application because he had so many they were unwieldly or impossible to all be loaded into the OS - I suppose those system engineers were thinking of people like him, hah!
