Is this model truly the last of the Mohicans as the Seller indicates? How about the point he makes regarding the rarity of this model due to its "unishell" case construction? http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/140857057174?item=140857057174&ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Yes, it was the last of the regular issue pie pans with 564's inside. By no means is it rare. I bought a mediocre ss example for $365, had it fixed for just under $200, wore it 8 months and sold it at Faber's Gallery for $600. There was an Asian market version of that watch (or very similar) released in 1972-ish that had a 1021 inside I think.
I have both this version with the cal. 564 and the Asian pie-pan with a cal. 1011. On this eBay example the crown is incorrect. Because of the nature of the one-piece case there is a specific crown that only fits this case reference. I think these are still avaliable at Ofrei.com. Mondodec did nice write-up on both watches: Cal 564: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zjzxx3wwtdh/omega constellation168.025.pdf Cal 1011: http://users.tpg.com.au/mondodec//Last_Omega_Constellation_Pie_Pan.pdf Hope this helps, gatorcpa
Yes, I think it is a pretty good piece. Not too worn, and what little wear is consistent. Dial seems to have correct vertical texture on face. I've addressed the crown issue already. Only variable is the movement. However, most sellers lack the tools to take the case apart, so movement shots are rarely seen on these. I'd ask about the push-pull date mechanism on the cal. 564 to make sure it is functional. That's one factor that keeps the price a bit lower on this style, gatorcpa
Looks good to me, and worth putting out up to $575 IMO. $600 if it had the correct crown. It's a little smaller than the average Constellation by a mm or so.
It is several mm shorter top to bottom, due to the very small lugs. However, I think the dial is the same size or even a tiny bit larger than the more well known bent lug (Ref. 168.005) Constellations. gatorcpa
Yep, these 168.025s are rising in value. Ive seen them go as high as 1000 in very good condition. Of course the description is off and inaccurate, as Gator has pointed out the cal 1011 is the last of the in-house Constellation piepans. Cheers Desmond
I won't let something like this go next time. The dial was stunning, the crispness of the pie pan facets and the light vertical grain. Is that a feature of this monoque model? Or just this dial?
It's a feature found only on the 167/8.025, AFAIK. There is also a two-tone deluxe pie-pan dial. See below: That version is relatively rare and sells considerably more than the standard vertical grained dial. gatorcpa
They had a couple different colors in the center of those dials. A year or so ago there was a purplish-brown version on eBay.
Yes, I remember it. If the gold cap hadn't been totally worn through in a couple of spots, I would have bought it. gatorcpa
K - Keep your eyes peeled on eBay, there have been a few that showed up over the last couple of years. gatorcpa
