    Hi All,

Hit the big 4-0 last week and was lucky enough to have a seamaster (model 21230412003001) bought for me by my wife. I'm a complete novice, I have a few watches but nothing at the level of an omega. I can see with a bit of research this is probably an entry level model, but I'm really happy with her choice, though she was torn between this and a speedmaster (model 32630405003001) and is happy for me to change it.

I can see plenty of speed v sea arguments on the web! But the models are key in these discussions and so I thought I would see if anyone can help with these particular models, as well as in relation with which way to go. I would be wearing either with pride probably once a week to work or personal functions, so both with business and casual attire.

Here in the U.K. there is a c.10% price difference (speedy is c.£300/$380 more), so price is not key, it is more the look and I guess if I am being honest, which one would gain more recognition (sorry that sounds vain, but I mean looks wise and model wise, which one says 'omega'!).

I have attached the pics, and would really appreciate some helpful advice on what will no doubt be the first step down a pricey road! Many thanks in advance! IMG_0426.PNG IMG_0427.PNG

Tough call between a classic Seamaster and a classic Speedmaster, however the Speedmaster there isn't the classic. So if you're wanting one that says Omega then it's definitely the classic Seamaster for me.

Of those two, I'd do the seamaster. That speedmaster does nothing for me, maybe because I haven't seen a real picture of it, and just this internet rendering

That Seamaster is one of the most iconic timepieces Omega has made; since the model debuted in 1993 Omega hasn't sold any watch more than that Seamaster (in various formats, starting with 2531.80, then 2220.80 as well as their quartz brothers).

Seamaster if I had to choose. Very versatile!

As a matter of fact I just laid mine out for tomorrow for our camping trip.

I like the speedy tho as those types draw me in, case in point below:

Of those 2 the seamaster. That era date/racing Speedmaster is not the best looking. The seamaster is a classic.

If you want a first Speedmaster it has to be the Professional.
Your wife was spot on in her choice, great watch!

I know this is totally unrelated to the original post but I like Jacques Cousteau and I keep seeing your avatar!!!! So cool and I remember being fascinated watching on Saturday mornings at my Granddad's. Good days for different reasons. I still watch the shows and the technology still looks as cool as it was when I was little. At the time he undertook some really ground breaking expeditions and projects. The difference is I am now also eager to keep my eyes open for what Jacques and his crew are using to tell the time. I use to like the Banana Splits as well which was completely of zero educational value but fun nonetheless:):):)

First of all welcome to the forum and make that 11-0 definitely the Seamaster it's a lovely watch, your wife chose well! That particular Speedmaster does nothing for me and I'm a Speedy fan.

I will weigh in support of the Seamaster. My "go to" summer watch.

Thanks! He's a personal hero of mine, and he did a lot for Omega back in the 60s and 70s. He's also the reason I have a Doxa Sub. I find his underwater exploration (especially the habitats that he used) fascinating.

Of those two the seamaster. However, if you introduce the speedmaster professional into the mix, the speedy pro all day long for me! 20160704_182451.jpg

Seamaster always. But get it onto rubber asap! I have the 50th anniversary Seamaster GMT on black rubber and it really changes the whole look and feel, for the better IMO (although I am probably in a minority there!).
