Hi all
I just recently joined the omega forum to learn about vintage omega and have gotten plenty of suggestions and knowledge which I really appreciate.
I am about to pull trigger to get my first vintage omega, and due to my limited knowledge, My searches are focusing on watches that’s clean and ready to be worn. My current pick is the below ref.168.0056, dial, case, Crystal, hands all look nice, and movement looked clean and in order. The part I appreciate the most is the case which I was told unpolished, and the great overall condition. I may need to get a buckle separately (is eBay the best place to get vintage original part?) as I love wearing watches on strap.
Just want to check here if any final opinion for reference before i make an offer. I will update everyone again once I receive the watch and have it on my wrist. Thank you again

Looks like a clean example to me, but it it’s hard to say too much without knowing what they have it up for and how much you were thinking of offering.

It’s now up for c.1400 so need to do some serious negotiation

Looks all ok, except for the price. These later C-shapes are a less sought after than their first design phase with cal 5xx and 75x movements. It’s also the most common, least sought after layout with a plain white dial, no fluted 18k WH bezel. Not sure about your currency but 1400€/$/£ sounds to me like about twice it’s market value (maybe slightly less). Yes, it’ll always be more expensive when it comes from a dealer and it might be serviced, but 1400 is still pretty steep tbh.

Hey MtV. Grateful for your comment. This is exactly the feedback I am looking for. I do wish to get one with flute bezel and earlier reference. Let me keep shopping. I think this one would be a good daywear if the price is right☺️☺️☺️ (Probably put an offer and see). Thank you again

If you are indeed looking for a first design phase example with a fluted bezel, I’d say be patient and skip on this one. What’s to gain by making an offer and ending up with a watch that’s not quite what you want, especially since these C-shapes were produced in large numbers and do pop pretty regularly.

May I recommend Desmond’s great article on them:

Tks. A bit glad that I haven’t made an offer. Want to put my money on something I really like. Hope to get your valuable advice again when I spot my next target. Than you again
