how can these general production models sell for $7k when the slightly larger 1969 original vintage limited to 500 pieces each sell in the $4k range? prices have to converge!
Yeah! In addition, A384 re-issue is made as a perfect image of the original (only caseback is completely different, and dial look seems to have slight differences on the colours), and the edition of last years are re-interpretation of the original design.
I have a few newer watches but I have to say that I love the old ones and they represent great value. I have an early 70's El Primero Surf and just bought a early 90's Rainbow. I grew up with this image of Swiss watch houses filled with skilled craftsmen making watches and that was largely true prior to globalization and the development of CNC technology. Without taking anything away from the re-issues (which are beautiful, I admit) there is something to be said for the skills and craftmanship that people had 50 years ago.
I love these old El Primero models but unfortunately their value has risen beyond my grasp. My sincere appreciation for the Zenith brand came a couple of years too late.
As seen yesterday evening while window shopping (like every day really, lucky me!) in downtown Geneva: (please pardon the poor quality). It is very white. I know we shouldn't expect vintage-ish warm hues, but still, it is very, very contrasted.
I like the new 384 and I think it’s reasonably priced for what it is but like most zeniths I imagine it’ll be on jomashop soon for 20% less if that makes it more appealing for you.
