Has anyone fallen foul of Paypals non refund of fees for cancelled purchases? This now means a buyer can buy your goods on eBay, change their minds and ask for a refund and you are liable for the fees. If this is an expensive watch we can be talking several hundred pounds for someone clicking your buy it now and then having a change of heart.
That's essentially theft as far as I'm concerned. If they want to charge the fees to someone, charge them to the buyer and maybe it will make them more careful as to what they buy.
They updated their T&Cs some time ago regarding this. Last month I was incorrectly sent £795, which I refunded almost immediately (within maybe 2 minutes). The amount I was credited after their fee deduction was £755.74. When I checked my bank account the amount returned was £795, leaving me out of pocket by £39.26. After a phone call the fee was refunded. I was told it was a 'good will gesture' and next time I would not be reinbursed. They said they are always charged handling fees regardless of the transaction being cancelled, and can no longer bear the costs themselves. If you can avoid using paypal I would at all costs.
Always looking for a way out of Paypal. Does anyone have good suggestions for international payments besides wire transfer? My bank charges a very high fee to send and receive them. I've heard TransferWise is possible, but would that trigger the same bank fees? But I guess after Paypal's terrible conversion rate, maybe it's a wash anyways....
I use https://www.centtrip.com/enterprise whenever I can. The rate is usually 50 odd pips from spot, compared to paypals 400/500
That's a nightmare. And might be a great way for someone with the funds to destroy their competitors... by sending them false payments repeatedly and letting them eat the fees.
