Cruising around the other watch site and stumbled upon this Hamilton. Did some research and discovered that it is a Swiss made 7750. For a mere asking price of $400 it was hard to pass up. Expectations were not high but I am blown away. I have had a couple of IWC 3706s, which this is very similar to. Case finish is not quite IWC level, but $400?! It is going to be my beater. The typical 7750 issues remain. Noisy rotor. Slack in min hand. Ugly movement. The IWC had those issues too, which is why I did not keep them. But at this price it is absolutely acceptable.

These are nice. I've had a couple and they do serve very well. Hamilton also made this watch in a linen colored dial and I always thought it was very nice.

Can't help much with the ugly movement comment (personally I don't see them as ugly, just built for a purpose). And the rotor being noisy is just a fact you have to live with. But the "slack in min hand" is easily resolved just by setting the watch in the proper manner. All watches have some slack, it's just that normally the direction the time is being set (moving hands forward) the slack is being taken up. On the 7750 if you move the minute hand past the minute marker you want to set it to, then move is CCW back to that marker, you won't see any slack.

    Cheers, Al

These are undervalued though I did own mine for a bit more than $500, I shifted it because of the thickness, another unloved attribute of 7750 based watches

This is my first mechanical watch ever, purchased new for my 30th birthday in 2004.
    I paid 690€ back then

Not worn much due to my job, as for most of my watches, regrettably

... and yes it's quite dirty around the bezel, I'll clean it rigth now!

Certainly not the prettiest but this is one of the most accurate watches I own!

The case threw me off. he said it has been polished, but it looks like it is either covered with water spots or dings. I couldn't tell. Seemed better to pass on it given the odds that it needs a service anyway.
