I wonder how long the new line continues to be called a moonwatch, especially if not getting certified by Nasa becomes the norm
It’s not even really debatable … it’s the 321 Ed White. Caseback and Bezel and crystal material aside, it is the closest modern Moonwatch to the refs that actually made it to the moon. And before someone even pipes up with 3861, it’s movement has changed too drastically from the 186x to be considered merely an evolution (like 861 -> 1861). Plus it’s not flight certified so I don’t even consider it a true Moonwatch.
Anyone knows why the SI14 balance wheel on cal 3861 not black in color like other cal that using the same SI14. Merely to match the gears?
In 2022 I think the 321 Ed White is the correct answer, but the Fratello article is an update on the article first published in 2016. Back in 2016 it was more of an open question.
