This one popped up on C24, not mine, with an inscription on the case back ; Iain, Neil, Cameron and Ross, and the dates of 8 - 4 -78 and 16 -3 -10. Also with ; Honours.

Passed the bar ? Exams ? Rowing champs ? Scottish names ? Why the gap from 1910 to 1978 ?

Can we find the connection ?

Who knows. Iain Neil Cameron could be one person who was born and/or gifted the watch in 1978. The second date could be 2010 and related to Honours from a place or group called Ross.

To avoid confusion it should be inscribed 2010 then, which could have fitted in there i think. No big event in 1910 but for a mining disaster on the 6th of March.
But a place called Ross, or Ross ice shelf , and 3 or just one person could fit. Backing vocal group for Diana Ross ?

And the Dead keep on living 😗

Oh, you were serious? 😁

This was meant to be my answer that I have no clue about your inscriptions. But I guess you realized I was clueless. 😀

This is one case where an extract might be useful by telling you what country this started life in. Hopefully they will return.

The Dead are always worthy, so eventhough i was serious to find out the meaning of the engraving, your reply most definitly qualifies !

Well "Honours" definitely makes them Brit/Aussie/NZers, and I'm looking for sports with a team of four. Yes rowing, but also bob-sledding (I've recently watched Cool Runnings 😎) Some categories of yacht racing too, what's the crew of those crazy Sidney Harbour extreme trapeze things? 16-3-10 could be a record time for an event.

It’s obviously a watch that belonged to Mr Ross Honours, who was born on 16th March 1910. He had a very active life, and fathered triplets (all boys, called Iain, Neil & Cameron) that were born on 8th April 1978. This watch was gifted to him to commemorate the birth.

Alternatively, if you’re in the US Mr Honours was born on the 3rd of the sixteenth month in 1910, and the triplets were born on the 4th August 1978 😉

Yes, sports is a good candidate, or maybe a Masters degree ?
