I purchased a new lens for my camera last weekend hoping that equipment and subject matter might compensate for my shortcomings as a photographer.

Some of my latest efforts below. I wonder how much I need to spend to become a good photographer. Sod it I think I am better off spending my money on watches and staying a very ordinary photographer:whistling:

    what lens did you get?

A good lens by itself will not produce better pictures. Light, proper exposure, depth of field, composition, etc are all part of the equation - once you understand the basic concepts of these elements and how to control them, you will then be able to take the full advantages of your lenses. Practice, practice, practice!

    Nice array of watches
I am sure your new lens is great all you have to do now is present your subject in the correct light think about the Depth of Field you desire strap the camera to a sturdy tripod and with practice and patients you will get some great results

That particular lens has decent reviews  As suggested above, a tripod --and I would add a remote cable release-- will allow you to take full advantage of the macro capabilities of this lens.

I have invested in both the tripod and remote. What I need to do now is invest the time. I did a lot of research prior to purchase and nearly considered the 105 but could not justify the expense for my needs. As you say the reviews for the lens are excellent and I am very happy with it especially as at the moment all I have done is point and shoot.

Not a bad effort, and in any case, it's not easy taking black dials! and the majority of yours are... +1 on that 2998-2! ::love::

I lived there for about twelve months in the mid nineties. First at Manly and then Hawthorne on the river.

A couple of later shots of the 2998 in a better light and tripod. Very self indulging, sorry;)

A slight adjustment to the WB and a small amount of Sharpening - use the white hands or the black of the bezel for the Levels
