Long story short I bought an old diver from a European dealer a few days ago, just as I was leaving for a vacation with my wife to Italy. I asked the dealer to ship to my hotel after discussing it with the dealer and the hotel. Arrived at the hotel Saturday night with the delivery expected today. Was trying to figure out how to explain the purchase to my wife without the whole "what, another watch?" discussion. We went to a museum this morning and came back to the hotel at lunch time. As luck would have it, when we went to the room the cleaning crew was there working. I told my wife that I was going back downstairs to use the lobby restroom. A quick stop at the concierge desk and the package had arrived. Ripped it open, grabbed the watch, and put it on in a low key way. Seemingly she still hasn't noticed despite going to lunch and walking around for a few hours. Snuck in a couple of phone pix. Really love the look and feel of this one (7042-1). HAGW all. Nick
That is a stunning watch, "old diver" doesn't quite cut it.... oh and is there a dibs list for when she finally notices
I have also had a watch shipped to a hotel - can't remember how I broke the news, but I still have the watch, so she must not have been too upset... As for non-watch purchases, still trying to figure out how to order something on our joint Amazon Prime account without her receiving a confirmation email... Good luck!
Lovely. I also showed up at a hotel with a watch, a new JLC Master Calendar in RG having made a deal with a Paris AD while the wife was with me on a business trip. It was pretty much impossible to hide the huge box, especially since it needed to ride home in her suitcase. She gave me dispensation on that one but not without a lecture on financial priorities.
Mission accomplished. When she does finally notice it ... "Is that another new watch?", your instant and puzzled response is "This? This is years old".
