Hello everyone, I hope you're having a terrific week-end! I'm pretty excited by the latest premoon that has been added to the stable, so I thought why not give a little feedback to the community ? Yesterday was delivery day, I got these two Ed Whites in hand, so I shot some pictures. Unfortunately it's snowing here, there's no light, so the pictures are ugly... But hey, at least you can read my nonsense! The Ed White on the left has been in my posession for a year and a half, whereas I picked up the one on the right yesterday. It was a lucky eBay find, not because the price was very low, but because the seller didn't want to ship it out of France, so it was overlooked by a lot of people I guess. Plus, pictures were terrible (even worse than mine ). See below It comes from a jeweler that sold it for the first owner of the watch, which is terrific for a nerdy guy like me: she is in spectacular condition. Unfortunately, the case was polished in the past, but otherwise it looks like a watch that has seen few use. The dial and hands are very pretty with a nice matching patina, the movement looks very clean. All in all, I'm glad about the purchase. When I came home thrilled, I sat down and stared at both EWs for an hour (like a freak would do ), only to realize that they really are extremely different. One is probably worth substantially more than the other: The case on the incoming was "only" polished, whereas my older 105.003-65, which I will call Casper (like the ghost), has a refinished case. It's a great job, and I got the watch this way, so although a collector should be disgusted by this it doesn't bother me that much. If the case must be ruined, at least now it looks good... The greater difference, though, lies in the dial / hands combo. One looks like a 55 year old toolwatch that has gone through some s**t, while the other looks like it just got out of a time capsule. Obviously, Casper looks much less attractive to me now that a younger-looking sibling arrived... Some collectors will ask why the heck do I keep both, the fittest newcomer should throw Casper out! Well, Casper was given to me by a very special person, so it's one watch that I will never sell. Sorry Mrs perfect, you'll have to share my wrist... PS: that telemtre bezel is just da bomb A final (ugly, once again) picture, that shows that I'm not a non-Speedmaster racist!
Congratulations on your new acquisition, beautiful 105.003. They’re certainly both special in their own ways. But the telemetric bezel is amazing! Enjoy them both!
Superb. Congratulations for your acquisitions. I live in France as well and think I have seen this watch on eBay. I unfortunately have insufficient knowledge yet to make this kind of acquisition. I am happy it went into good hands. Enjoy
Let me guess, the new one is a late 003 in the 25m range? According to my observations, these age quite nicely and usually the lume on the dial is more yellowish than the one on the hands. Congrats on the catch! Edit: number range
Great couple of watches - congratulations and keep on enjoying them. Given the choice, I'd take Casper every time. That really is a silver ghost and not a scratched and chipped wreck of a bezel.
Thanks a lot guys, I really do appreciate it. The movement is a 24,5m which should be OK. Plus, I have few doubts given that it came from the first owner. And I forgot to mention that I may receive a nice bonus related to the watch (by mail) in the next few days But nothing is sure yet, so if it arrives I'll just show you guys. ÉDIT: I also noticed that Casper has her original old logo crystal, looks like "the prettier one" has the old logo as well but I'm not 100% sure they look quite different ?
Well, I've heard that a couple of times already, but afterwards they also said "let me take care of the prettier 105003"
