·Good evening everybody,
after the previous introduction of a hobnail acquisition of mine here

got so much positive feedback, I figured this one also deserves a little time in the spotlight. 😀
(A picture from the seller, still with the incorrect crown)
It’s an 18k rose gold 2652 Constellation, so one of the earlier examples. The 2648 and the 2652 are known to have come in various spectacular dial configurations, and to me, this one’s right up there. I haven’t seen solid rose gold hobnail Connies before so when I came across it - or rather when I was pointed in it’s direction by a friendly fellow collector - I couldn’t say no.
Interestingly, it had been sitting on C24 for a week or so without much attention, despite what I’d consider a reasonable price. Quickly made contact to the seller, agreed to meet the next day and of I went to pick it up in person. The dealer was super friendly and accommodating, and while I’d have bought it from almost whoever it made me leave with an even bigger smile.
Unfortunately, the iPhone camera combined with my very limited photography skills mean this thing is very hard to display in all its glory. The dial somehow seems dirty in most pictures, although the close-ups show it absolutely isn’t:
Also, it likes to pretend it’s yellow gold for some reason - maybe it’s a little shy. Here’s a picture from the lovely case back:
But the rose gold really only pops when putting it next to a yellow gold example
Especially in the sunshine, it’s absolutely spectacular. I’m a sucker for RG anyway, and in combination with that structured dial it just doesn’t get boring to look at. It’s certainly a rather outgoing piece, and I like the details - how it wears its hallmark proudly on the side of the case, for example.
There’s minor flaws: Yes, it’s seen a polish during its lifetime, but it’s far from that dreaded bar-of-soap look. Also, the second hand is too long, unfortunately - I’ll hunt for one in correct length, but I’m certain I’ll need quite the patience for that. Anyway, happy to look over that for the time being. First of, it’ll go to a service. The movement isn’t in the best of states, and despite the seller offering a 1-year warranty and him having it serviced by his watchmaker, I’ll still rather have mine do the job again. There’s a difference set of priorities in me ordering a service vs a dealer doing it - absolutely no disrespect to him and currently it works ace, but I’ll sleep more soundly knowing who did the work.
A last wrist shot - my apologies for the load of pictures, but I’m having too much fun with it to not share! 😀
