87F40621-CE82-44A3-9A96-C7F934C2A43E.jpeg Whilst being a Speedmaster fan, I have to confess I am fairly ignorant in regards to vintage. I bought this watch about 10 years ago as a “birth year” watch, I think it is from 1976.
Here are a few pictures including the movement from its last service.
Is this a “step dial” and whilst not looking to sell it could anyone give me a rough idea on value as currently it is not insured based on what I paid 10 yrs ago but may need to look to get it insured. It is head only no B&P.
    Thanks in anticipation

Hard to see from your picture but it doesn't look like a step dial. Do you have a picture of the inside caseback?

The caseback will have the model year (although a -76 doesn't mean it was actually assembled in '76). And it does not look like the dial is stepped.

Serial number puts it late 77 production on a 145.022-76 of its 39,9xx,xxx

Dial domed not stepped and is post sept 77. it’s a c3 dial. Which puts it at late 77 production assuming it’s the original dial. It might have left the factory with a c2 dial and got a service dial pre 1990 but with the correct and immaculate DNN bezel, odds are it was not serviced.

    If it’s a late 39.9m serial I’d expect a c3 dial.

My birth year is 1976 and I own a77 production 145.022-76 also. Don’t feel bad even 2 years ago we did not have the data to narrow that reference down to when exactly it was produced. Mine was purchased thinking it was early production due to the c2 dial.

C2/3/4 dials have very slightly different fonts on “Speedmaster”

Stunning watch you have in excellent condition.

Ohh forgot to add I’d insure at $5000

Open market I’d say a little less then that.
