Hi, I have still not ventured far into the realms of vintage Longines. This ref 3418 18K Flagship came in just the other day as part of a package. I am unsure if the hands are correct? They do look a bit short IMO, but then again that might have been the case? Anyhow I always value opinions and information that can help me understand more!
Hands look OK to me. The dial is different than this example of the same reference: http://www.kaplans.se/en/auktioner/2492/vara/944405 Not sure if it means anything at all. gatorcpa
Very very nice catch! Write in to the Longines Heritage dept for more info and see if they can provide some brochure pictures to confirm the authenticity of the dial.
It's a later version - the movement's serial number dates it to 1966, which was the next to last year of production for that series of calibers. What worries me is that the cross hair evenly divides the space between SWISS and MADE, where the factory usually divided in the center of the entire phrase leaving an uneven gap between the two words.
Amazing case-back, nonetheless any possible dial issues .... My 18K Flagship (3408, cal 341) says 'hello': Welcome to the Fleet!
It is apparent that both minute and hour hands are significantly shorter as compared to my 3408 and the other 3418 that Evan showed us...
Here's another similar example, similar hands, different 'Swiss made' ... http://watchestobuy.com/LonginesFlagship18k.htm/
Very good to see one with the same caseback as on mine. Mine have been polished on the sides, but the rest looks well, and I can now assume that the edges are not lost, as they seems not to have been there from the start. Always comforting to find another specimen that resembles the one you got yourself! What I find interesting is the 4/10 stamp in the caseback. Could this refer to the dial style (crosshair/shorter hands)? Mine has lume dots, so the "T SWISS MADE T" on my watch makes sense IMO. I have tried to study the fonts and other in a 20x loupe and have to say that if mine is a redial they have done rather well....
