are easily parted - or so the saying goes I just saw the auction results from Great Western's recent sale (Glasgow) these two uninspiring (not to mention redialled and well polished) Connies went for £700 and £850 respectively (about £875 and £1060 all in!) I think that Connies might have contracted a nasty little rash from those Speedy boys..... anyone got a pin...?
Meh I'll just assume that they were bought by people that wanted a good/expensive watch. I still like them though (but poor redials...). How are they polished ? Aren't they gold plated ? Were they re-plated ?
With a hammer, I'd guess. The gold cap used in these watches can easily stand a polish, but it'll show when looking at the bevels... Or the lack of them, as is the case here.
That minute track is hillarious! It's as if it was done with a template for a smaller watch - and then place off-centre
some Omegas of that era were GP but because the Constellations were the bees-knees, the cat's pyjamas, the dogs kahuna's... you get the picture If they weren't solid gold they were gold capped in line with their status (other Omegas were also gold-capped by the way) -and of course they came in SS too Gold cap sometimes has less sharp definition on the lugs/case as it is essentially a thick layer of gold applied over the 'shell' solid gold cases start off well defined -but are very susceptible to losing their edges with over zealous polishing -it's why solid gold watches in good condition are sought after but these ones are well and truly polished (and redialled) -no collector would pay this kind of money for these watches someone really didn't know what they were buying -madness!
Thanks for the info guys. Good to know. Didn't know about the whole gold cap thing. I thought it's either solid gold or gold plated/filled. I know a collector would never pay that price for these watches, but as I said earlier, it's the average person that buys these (and gets ripped off sadly). People think that it's safer to buy from shops than from ebay (and it is, in some ways) but that's not always the case. I noticed that shops usually inflate their prices by at least 20-25%.
Sure but you can also find better ones, if you're a little patient and stalk the forums, ebay and maybe if you know someone that deals with such items.
