I am on the verge of jumping into the wonderful world of Omega watches. I would like to know what are generally considered good vendors on eBay so that I can keep a watch (no pun intended) for a piece that catches my eye.

I am also very interested in learning more about the various Omega movements and was wondering where I might find some information that is accessible to someone new to this game.

I really appreciate the reference KO 14750 (1970 Seamaster Deville white dial in silver casing). Generally speaking that is the kind of minimalist aesthetic that really made me fall in love with older Omegas. What are your thoughts on the references I should be keeping on my Radar?

Thanks for any help that you guys can provide :)

    Cheers,
    Shieldwriosto

I think something else you have to determine is your philosophical stance toward restored watches. I haven't been around here all that long but you quickly see a hierarchy among the watches the enthusiasts pursue. It seems that the "bought in '62 and only worn to church on Sundays" are the aristocrats; those with some evidence of use next, unacknowledged redials seem to occupy the lowest caste. Those that are fixed up explicitly and looking like new seem to be somewhat outcastes...or stepchildren whom we never discuss! I wonder if that perception is correct or mine alone? Given how you've described what appeals to you about Omega's aesthetic, I can't see you being happy with "farm fresh" finds! My wish is that your budget will allow you to buy whatever strikes your fancy!

    If agree with this sentiment...

Redials and refinishing is frowned upon by the cognoscenti. This is unfortunate, as people have spent the time and money to restore a piece and give it a new lease of life. Only for some to consider it "ruined" no matter how skillful the work.

Personally, I'm ok with vintage pieces that have been lovingly and tastefully restored.

... it's a bit like vintage cars running modern tires and fresh paint. Still desirably collectible just not "all original"

For me personally, painted with Smurf blood is a deal breaker...

No one said "ghastly restoration" was desirable!

It's all about tasteful! Think how boring classic car shows would be if only the guys who bought the little old lady from Pasadena's wheels were allowed to exhibit! My cousin in classic car parts manufacturing couldn't buy milk for his babies in that dystopian world!

Bless me Father...I've bought a couple really nicely done restorations, for me, my SO and my dad! But you won't see any wristies of those! I have gotten a couple that are farm fresh and I love them and their patina too. Someday, I'll stumble onto an "only to church" piece, but I'm far too impatient and OCD to wait!

This is the second time I've seen a 50's bumper in Pelham blue....the last one was with original box and owners card...that must have been sold off separately.....I like the colour though........

I don't hate this one, I think the color is much nicer. I have a thing for blue though.

I wouldn't personally spend any real money on, but if someone was like, hey, want this watch for $50, I'd be happy to take it off their hands.
