Don't know if this one can be considered as vintage (it is from 1990), but I got it from Japan yesterday and I like it a lot!. Seems to be the only non-chrono Speedmaster (Classic Heritage), and is more like a dress watch, case reference 166.0285: Do
Steel bezel can see for the first time. To the Japanese market were produced special versions of the Speedmaster.
Anybody know more about this watch? This is purely to help improve my knowledge on the hobby. Many thanks!
I'm at a loss to be honest, I half believe its just some generic or DeVille watch that has been accidentally labelled a Speedmaster in the Omega vintage database, wouldn't be the first time
Well, it's an ETA 2892-2 inside. You can tell by (a) the rotor's hub and (b) it says "2892-2" by the balance wheel. Other than that, check the other thread about the gold bezel version of this watch for cicindela's post: http://omegaforums.net/threads/is-this-watch-is-omega-speedmaster.10653/#post-124089
Thanks for that dennis. Now it's a bit clearer. Quite misleading for omega to label it a speedmaster though.
The history of Speedmaster started when Omega designed watch for 'Racing boy'. Of course chronograph is important for them to time their laps and calculate their speed (hence tachymeter bezel). Space and moon association was an accident event, but get more attention and marketing budget.
Here is a screen shot of the Omega Extranet showing that specific serial number: Most certainly a Speedmaster in name, if not in functions. Looking at the case details for this serial number, this should have a gold bezel based on the case photos on the Extranet: Cheers, Al
