... and no one recognized what it is!
Being a good guy, I told him not to sell to sharks and wait for an auction if he wants to sell (which he doesn't).
I've insisted for him to join here, I hope he does and gives more info about the watch !

    For now, just enjoy it

Amazing how these continue to pop up. That metallic blue-gray dial is just something else... nothing quite like it.

Is there a clear consensus on what they are and where do they come from ?
I recall reading a @Spacefruit post saying that they could be Omega service dials. Hard to understand why they would fit dials like this without saying anything to the customer...

It's hard to understand how Omega used dials that aren't like any others from that era in color or texture/finish for production or service. They are an interesting anomaly.

Certainly hope they are not service dials...

Bezel isn't all smashed up either. What a looker

Not sure it matters if they are or are not. Their rarity and attractiveness makes them exceedingly more desirable.

I wrote to the guy, he said he's getting in touch with @Spacefruit - let's hope he can be provided with insight and that the guy just cherishes the bloody watch!
It's just mezmerizing. I think I've found yet another unobtainable grail ::facepalm1::

Wait, did he inherit it? Buy it? What's the story?

I'm color blind. Is that blue? Most times I can't see the brown in old dials, either. To my defective eyes, it looks like the others but with a bit more sheen compared to the matte finish on your run-of-the-mill vintage Speedmaster. God knows what wonders I must be missing in the world of color. In fact, if I had one of those in a box somewhere, I'd probably never even notice it was different. (Off to look through boxes but bringing my wife who can actually see things)

These blue grey dials though uncommon in the speedmaster pro are par for course with the tv dial speedmaster 176.0014.

Nothing sure as of today, if I understand correctly...
@ChicagoFrog I don't know the story, it's not my watch. I told the guy to come here. I think it's a family watch.

Comparison shots! I have a metallic blue/purple dial and a glossy grey dial, and I put them next to a standard -68 transitional for comparison. I don’t think these dials are original to these watches, although the serial numbers on the blue and the grey are very close. A gold Daytona with a prototype metallic blue dial unoriginal to the watch in it sold for half a million a few months ago, so maybe no one cares they weren’t born this way

I'll trade 2:1 (standard black dial : blue dial) for a straight lug blue soleil speedy... :D

I have no idea for how much these go for, but I fear that you're going to need more straight lugged black dials :)
