A couple back from service

I just got my Dads two Longines watches serviced for him.

A vintage 847 4427 hand wound watch and a more modern quartz L4.790.4 with a L.157.2 movement which is an ETA 255.111

The vintage one was magnetised and running really fast as well as missing some parts which I wasn’t aware of until my watchmaker took the back off in front of me. It was missing a screw which I think was a ratchet wheel that goes on the barrel so not sure how it was running.

The quartz one was eating batteries and had high consumption. That needed a good service and had a wheel that was binding up the movement. This one gave me trouble changing batteries all the time and then randomly stopping. I used my multimeter on the movement and everything checked out so sent it off to Bond Street watch servicing who fixed it up for me.

I had quite a wait for parts, but well worth the wait. Apparently Swatch Group were moving warehouses in the UK and there was a backlog. (I posted about it at the time.) In the meantime they cleaned up some marks on the dial and you see it was out of centre.

Here are some pics of them now they are back with new straps. The vintage longines was also treated to a new crystal. You can see the old one was scratched.

They came up well 👍.

Question though, what's the quartz doing on a winder?

That is a great question. I imagine it is a bit easier to keep track of what watches are on test - but it certainly isn't winding it 🤣😂
