... at the moment. I've just had a cataract replacement operation and my brain is having trouble matching what the left and right eyes see. Unpleasantly like being drunk.

"So what's unpleasant about being drunk?" "Ask a glass of water!"

Wishing you well. Hang in there - my friend had this recently, says give it time and the results are worth it. 👍

The brain has a wonderful way of correcting images / it’s software adds its own offset given time... so hang in there and it should improve and level out in a few days.

Wishing you a Speedy recovery
Weather so dire today that I couldn't wear my Speedy. Had to wear the WWWD Hamilton

Yep. Then I need the other eye done. Should be all sorted by Spring. Then new distance glasses and reading glasses, I have quite a lot of astigmatism.

Funny thing I hadn't expected -- the "White Balance" in digital camera terms has changed a lot. The fixed eye is on "Incandescent|" the other on "Bright Sunlight". Kinda.

Well, perhaps both mean that you see things in a bit of a twisted way?

Irritation is going down, and is nowhere near the level of getting a small insect under a contact lens. 😲

You said “cataract replacement” was that a typo or is that a thing now. I always thought you want to get rid of them not replacement but medicine is far above my wheelhouse I’m just wondering if I should see if I have any and if they need replacing.

I empathize with that wobbly thing it’s the side effect I get from the vax very unpleasant like you mentioned “drunk” without the pleasantries. Did you look up see if this is a common side effect maybe your brain is flipping out cause everything is clear now

If you think your sight has rapidly (3-6 months) got worse, then get checked out! Where I live at my age it's free, but pay for it if you have to!
The replacement part is that you get a fixed focal length lens, or by going privately and paying about a '60s Carrera 2647S for each eye you can get a focusable lens. That's right-pondian. My experience of left-pondian medical bills suggests you may be paying heavily. Or your medical insurer if you have one, of course.

Yeah, it's normal. My brain has had over 70 years of integrating left & right eyes and now it has to do it all over again. I got no reaction from 1 & 2 & Booster vaccinations. It will be a few days before the operated eye is fully integrated. Then I have to get the other one done.....

Oh wow that is a lot more intense than I thought on one of the medical procedure things I watched I thought they just “sucked out the cataract” and your good to go. I get regular exams due to my need for glasses thus far I have been ok but with many medical conditions if you make it to a certain amount of years you are gonna get it. I’ll just go with the program knock em down as they come up what other choice do we have.

Hope you have a fast recovery Mike, the good lady wife had hers done a few years back. Like yourself a few weeks apart and was amazed with the results once everything settled down 👍

Absolutely keep on top of everything. If I could not see

well, don't think I could cope with that.

And on the good news front: eye operated on today does not hurt at all now Wahayy!

Very true we have known a few people with degenerative eye disease, including my mother in law scary stuff for any human. Gee it would be horrible to have to pick a sense to lose.
Well glad you are improving can I ask if they put you asleep while they do eye surgery? I’ve had a few surgeries mostly putting things back together I broke in one manner or another but something about “eye surgery” sounds incredibly frightening to me. I know my mother in law in some eye procedure done while awake god bless her I’m not sure I could handle that.

Mine was done under a local anesthetic administered by eye-drops. There's an absorbent blanket over the face because there is a lot of water irrigation and all that can be seen is some lights and a small amount of movement. Time about 15 minutes.

We are proper spoilt these days... It might be a tall tale but I recal reading about the lone sailor Tristan Jones. He claimed to have had an eye knocked out of its socket by the boom / a swinging block. He kept it in a wet rag, pushed it back in and sewed his eyelid shut as a bandage until he reached dry land for help some weeks later.....He did not loose the eye but I would take his stories with a pinch of salt ;0)

A fortuitous discovery -- my reading glasses are a perfect match for distance vision for the "new" eye. To explain: you are offered the choice of long sight or short sight for the new fixed focus lens. As I've been short sighted all my life I elected to stick with what I'm used to. However the new lens is not as short sighted as I was naturally so the old correction for reading turned out to be right for distance now. I've read that some people elect to have one eye long and the other short and I'm surprised that my brain can let whichever eye gets best focus dominate. Don't like it much but it works.
