I just bought this 2998-4 from the grandson of the original owner. He was not interested in vintage speedmasters and the watch had been sitting in a safe for years. He told me that he never wore it.

The watch is 100% original and only had one service during its life (I suppose the crown was replaced at that time). Note the rare 7077 bracelet with #6 end links.

Sorry the watch is dirty and there are scratches on the crystal, I will remove them soon...

Very nice! I need to start hanging out with people whose grandparents had nice watches :)

Incredible find. Hope it's restored but not over-restored!

Perhaps you need to move an old mare out of the stable to make room?

Lovely! Look at that crisp back!

Huge congrats! Whatever you've paid, I'm sure it was worth it!

Nice example! The case has some of the sharpest bevels on case back and lugs that I've seen! Also one of the cleanest 7077 bracelets...appears to have no/very little stretch.

Mind to share more of the story on how the 2998-4 "found you"? That's always one of the most interesting aspects of this hobby.

    Wow, amazing!

Even more amazing is how it stayed 100% original with a replacement crown!!!!!

Thanks ! I think the case back has never been polished.
The story is not complicated, I saw the 2998 for sale, I gave a call, and when the guy told me it was the speedmaster of his grandfather, I jumped into my car with cash !
