8806 servicing

My friend has just bought these watches which I think has the 8806 calibre.

He won’t be wearing most of the watches very often at all, and is asking me about servicing. I’ve not got a clue so I’ll pass over to you knowledgable lot.

How often would you get these serviced if not being worn frequently? And how much (roughly) would it cost?

Thanks. Rob

Your friend just bought these brand new watches and he is already worrying about when he will have to service them? "Where and how much" answers may not apply by the time that he will have to service them (most probably after 5 years).

Like anyone who buys something new, be it a car or watch or anything else, it’s useful to know how often it needs servicing and how much that might cost.

Do you think it’s an unreasonable question?

I have a different Omega with the same movement. The manual just recommends 4-5 years. So, I don't know that you will get a definitive answer.

Sounds like he might have bought them as an investment, because they're "rare" ...

Plonker that I am, just realized that the set contains 5 variations of the same watch.

Has this sort of thing been done before? Is it a popular offering? I mean, I get the Trilogy set, because of the more distinctive variation among the timepieces. But this seems... different.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic commemorative watches are all same too. I think if you like collecting watches it’s not a bad thing to own these.

Maybe

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the individual watches are still commonly found unsold at retailers, a solid 2+ years after launch. Unless your colleague got them for a super low price and could unload them today at a profit, he's unlikely to find that his investment pans out :/

I’m not sure whether it definitely is for an investment or not. As I say he’s a watch collector and I’ve never known him flip watches. He said he won’t be selling them but who knows.

The price he got them for was absolutely ridiculous if I’m honest. I can only guess that the jewellers selling them are having cash flow issues due to COVID and needed shut. He could sell tomorrow and massively undercut every other set on the market and still make a profit.

As said before though, it wasn’t me who bought them and I’m not 100% sure of the reasons for getting them.

Thanks for the servicing answers. I’ve passed them onto him and encouraged him to join this forum.
