...So STS provided an original vintage set of hands and vintage 24 tooth crown??

Aged service hands from the look of it, and if you read another of Jonathan's posts, they had a 24 tooth crown as a used part... but supply of these is dwindling into nothing.

Thank you for sharing your fascinating story and watch!
So the hands are aged super luminova hands, right?

As collectors of vintage watches most of never get to know the journey our watches have been on. Imagine owing a watch that might have been a few cm from Madonna's knickers. Loved your story and no doubt the watch will pick up a few more tales before the next guardian gets to enjoy it.
Enjoy your watch

Thankyou @lillatroll . I think my Dad encountered all sorts of odd things during his time working at Christies in London. I think it will have a quite time in the red Omega pouch for a while.

馃槙...I will make an enquiry and post the answer. I know they are not vintage hands but the crown is. Sadly, in line with what Chris mentioned earlier, my letter from STS stated that these are now in very short supply Cheers.馃憤

What a great thing to read. Don't go leaving it in that service pouch, though. Put it on your wrist and make some memories and scratches for the next generation to remember.

Who, however, do not seem to have provided a complete rate report. 馃檨

Yes valid point @watchtinker... I will give them a call. Maybe they will provide one. I think regular users of STS will know more about this and be able to comment. I'm still very much a novice.

Thankyou.馃憤

For a bloke that knew nuffink when you joined you've come a long way and in the process you've contributed to the forum in a most positive manner.

A big BZ to you for that and a thankyou from me for showing that chocolate dial.

Cheers Jim! Any knowledge I've gleaned about Omega Speedmasters has come from reading this forum, the comments of members and of course Speedmaster101. I'm still very much aware that I still know 'four fiths of fakk all' about watches. But I'm keen to learn now.馃榾

No, but maybe they can??? I don't know the answer to that one. I wasn't prepared to add that to the bill at this stage as I had to save up to pay for the service. Maybe one day I will source them and have them fitted.

The 24 tooth Crown is a vintage original but the hands are correct but aged to match the lume. I have the full set of service hands that were taken off by STS. Funny thing really because they are incorrect for this reference but over 40 years old and still very much vintage.

The pushers, crystal and DON bezel are original to the watch. The hands glow a little longer than the hour plots but I think Lee did a pretty good job with the colour match.
Cheers!馃憤

Post of the month!

What great reading! How nice to see the continuity of that Speedy. I hope you have someone after you that can hold up the "tradition" 馃榾
The idea of passing it on is a lovely thought.

I loved to read the story Jonathan - but the last photo... so cool. 馃憤

Now you just need to find the pair of top to bottom fade sunglasses that he was wearing! 馃槑
Oh I reckon my Mum binned them... Fortunately she never got hold of the watch.馃槻

That's why that Patek line resonates so hardly - it's really what it's all about 馃榾

Thanks for sharing that story, enjoy that timepiece like your dad did! 馃榾
