So I ran a bunch of my 7912’s through the ultrasonic, and for fun, decided to check the width of the last link, the one just before the end-link, because there looked to be some differences.

To my surprise, there was quite a variation in measurements. I got 17.5, 18, 18.5 and 19. In contrast, all my 1039’s were about 19.5.

So, one could rightly theorize that the ends were polished down. Or, the larger measurements could be explained by someone retro-fitting the 7913 clasp to a 1039 bracelet body. But they all have their 8 fixed links, so it’s not that. I’ve seen some that have lost their last link, to make the end a bit smaller so it fits a smaller lug width better.

The most common measurement I get is about 18.5. But I have so many that differ, it makes me wonder if anyone else has noticed something similar, meaning, 18.5 typical ; slightly less or more sometimes as well occasionally.

Last link should be 18mm, just under/just over are acceptable IMO, but if you're heading above 18.5mm I'd say there's a good chance the 7912 clasp has been added to another bracelet.

That 17.5 is just too small for you, I think you should send it to me, with a pair of 18mm enlinks for my SM Companion (which was a factory option), and I can dispose of it for you- an atrocity!

Check the clasps and see if you can find any evidence of different manufacturers. Most of these were made by subcontractors is my assumption, existing bracelet makers who ran off a bunch of branded bracelets under contract.
