    Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about buying a 70’s Omega TV dial watch, it belongs to a coworker, he bought it about 10 yrs ago in a pawn shop, he never serviced it, the watch loses minutes a Day.

Please see pictures below, it has an Omega day/date caliber 1020, I would like to ask for your help on determining if the watch is authentic, if everything is correct, dial, hands, etc. Maybe also if you can help me determine the year, my coworker says he was told it was from 1973.

The crown is very worn out, you can’t hardly make the omega logo anymore.
Any and All help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes it's quite genuine, serial number dates it to ca 1974.

Nothing jumps out as incorrect, however the case is very worn (and probably the bracelet too). In this condition needing a service it's worth $100 US or so. A service and a crown, etc are going to be more than the watch will ever be worth.

I try to keep away from anything that doesn’t take a normal strap.
It’s the bracelet or nothing on this model.

And as above not much in it as a service will make it cost more than it’s worth.

You can find these in great condition for a few hundred more.

Not much to add to the above but what on earth made you think that it might be a fake ?!

I appreciate the reply, yep, You are correct about the bracelet being worn out.

He is asking $200 for it, so I’m leaning towards not moving forward with the purchase.

    We’ll see

That was one of the things that I noticed immediately, the integrated bracelet.

And I also been thinking about the cost of service and all of that

    Thanks for the reply

I was really concerned with the case back, it’s completely plain, I figured it was an after market one. But once I opened it, that melted away.

It seemed odd to me not to have Geneve, Deville, etc. On the dial either - live and learn I guess

And not being able to find a similar watch for sale anywhere else, I searched on eBay, forums, and I just found a couple of pictures of kind off similar watches on a regular search engine.

I wasn’t sure about the hands either, so I just wanted another set of eyes looking it over

    Thanks for the reply

If I was you I would try to find one with a better case. That you show is too much damaged and for this watch is expensive to leave it as new than to buy another in better conditions.

I see where you are coming from, I just stop by my watchmaker, and the service alone would be $250 + parts

This model and similar can be bought in good condition for around $400, less than the one you show after service, crown, etc...

I finally talked to my coworker and told him the bad news, I offered to put him in contact with a watchmaker to get his watch serviced, since he mentioned that it was going to be a heirloom for his son, to what he replied: my son is 1 year old, he won’t need it until much later.

Just like one of you guys mentioned, he Hasn’t taken care of that watch and he will not take care of it, it will be on his son to get it service in 20+ years or so.

    That’s too bad

Thanks again everyone for chiming in
