‘68 Seamaster Geneve Restoration Advice

This is my late Dad’s ‘68 Seamaster Geneve. The watch that started my Omega interest as a kid. Would love to have it restored. Unfortunately, the case has had a lump taken out of it next to the crown (presumably during a botched attempt to open the case) - is damage like this even repairable? Anyone know of a reputable restorer in NE England?

That’s just wear to the gold plating and brass case beneath it. Not really reparable at least cost effectively.

I would accept it as part of the history of the watch - and your dad.
What bit of the NE of England are you in?

That’s an interesting thought. I’m in North Yorkshire so York, Leeds, Newcastle, Harrogate, Durham are all within easy reach.

Well, there is a watchmaker in Yorkshire that gets good reviews but I don’t use him personally.
However, case work is a bit of a specialist thing.
More importantly there is a small but enthusiastic Yorkshire OF contingent that meets up for good food, beer and watch banter - so we should add you to the list.

For the record, as a Geordie exile living in Leeds, I count Newcastle as the NE of England - Yorkshire is just the North of England in my book 😉

I have sent a couple cases/bezels for replating to http://www.replateit.com/ in Canada and have been very pleased with their work. You can send the photos in for a quote, my guess is that the repair would cost ~150GBP. Well worth it IMO if you intend to keep the watch.

Do you have a link to that watchmaker? I’m a Scot in N Yorkshire, right at the top end of the county, equidistant to Newcastle and York, hence the NE terminology.

Ah!
Trumped by an even more northerly northerner.
Sorry I don’t have a link but others might come in with the guys name.
Scots are still welcome to the Great Yorkshire GTGs

After some googling, found this guy in Bucks:

https://www.watchcaseworks.co.uk/

Anyone have any experience of using him?

I have. He did excellent work replating a case for me. If it's possible to graft on a bit of gold cap (which I have some doubts about), I think he'd be the man to do it but it wouldn't be a cheap job.
