Has anyone seen this dial of a 6538 before? Is it one of the legitimate variations? Any opinion is appreciated.
The surface between the dial and bezel looks quite fat, case looks very new to me too. Not an expert on these 6538s but compare to this one:
Yeah, I agree with Kyle. That space "could" be a photographic effect with the light. Do you have other pics?
That phone picture is bad, but case is not that new, pretty much proportionate to the bezel's condition with some scratches and small dents. The space is definitely larger with a seemingly much wider rehaute/tension ring, but the one Kyle posted above is the second, later variation, I understand. Here's a bit better picture. Has anyone seen these font types before? I have not found good pictures of the supposedly first variation dial yet. PS: @kyle L, can you elaborate on the "no good" part of the dial?
Thanks. Do you see anything else off? I'm not worried about the rehaute a bit large as it is quite clear.
Is it me or the whole shape looks distorted? Can You ask for a.pictire from the side? Maybe this is a super dome crystal? Those suckers can make things look weird for sure
Not an expert on these at all but the spacing of the words officially certified Chronometer looks really off.
It does look like a super dome, but I didn't know they had that crystal on this model. Either way I'd pass. 6538's should be pretty straight forward and this one is not.
The fonts look pretty big and not proportional like this one, I would post on vintagerolexforum though. That's where the real experts are.
Yeah post it there because if there is such a thing as a 6538 super dome model it should actually be more valuable.
I photograpghed the dial at an angle, not straight on, so it appears in oval shape in that picture resulting in the shorter triangle.
Kyle, I think the one you showed from Bob Maron is one of those East Asian redials that had a lot of experts (including James Dowling!) fooled a couple of years ago... Take a look at the dials on the VRF dial archive: http://www.network54.com/Forum/539540 Esp. this one. The originals don't have such exaggerated serifs on the 3-6-9 plots.
what camera and sense are you using that everything is getting so distorted? Even the case on the last picture seems distorted to look way to thick. Or maybe because I deal with images all day i'm loosing my eye. I would recommend taking high res pics that are simple with as long a DOF as possible and that are High res enough that the experts can zoom into them.
