I bought this 60's Omega Constellation day date and was wondering if it looks 100% authentic and if anyone know what the reference numbers 1686455/6 mean. I have tried the data base and they don't come up. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, the dial has been redone, not so well in my opinion.
Pictures are poor but I have the feeling that the star is glued over the constellation script.
If still possible, I would return it to your seller.

The watch is a UK market example. The distributor in the UK had their own numbering system for these locally produced gold cases.

The dial is a very amateur redial.

The value here in only in the gold case and the movement for parts.

    Hope this helps,

Why in the world would you not ask about it before buying? At the very least it's a redial.

    Try with 168.019.
The dial has been poorly refinished.
    The dial maybe 18k gold.

Hello there! The number you are citing is the case reference for your watch. That is sort of the part number for the housing of the device. The other numbers you would want to know are the watch’s own serial number (a figure in the 10s of millions) and the caliber of the movement.

Even as a rather inexpert member here, I can tell you that your dial has been poorly redone. The collector value is severely diminished because of this. The good news for you is that the value of the metal is quite high, so if you paid about the melt down value for it, your investment is safe. Other more learned members will chime in shortly and they should be able to answer your further questions.

I do appreciate all the information.I am happy with the watch. I only paid gold price for it and it does keep good time and has a 751 movement.

Here’s a 1972 UK Omega catalog with a listing for Ref. 168.5456. I believe the only difference would be the date-date feature (cal. 751). The case would be the same.

Dial looks to be solid gold on this one and probably on your watch also.

BTW, the Ref. on your watch looks to be 168.5455, not 6455.

    Take care,

I think it looks like a gold dial too. (So /6)
And the (first) 5 would denote an English case (Schackmann)
    Edit
On second thoughts I think the /6 is a gold case?

Why does the 168.017 have the original reference and not the others ?

For this reference, the "/6" means the same style of watch case was used for the 168.5455 and 168.5456.

The change of the reference to "5" to a "6" could be the "deluxe" gold dial (like for the 167.005 vs. 167.006), or the change in the movement from the date only cal. 564 to the day-date 751.

    Or all of the above.
