i buy and sell antique with very little experience with watches. Picked this up with some helping advice from a friend locally. 9k case made in UK in 1959, reconditioned by omega, original crystal and strap clasps. has the omega on winder

Wondering if better to flip or hang. In other words are they more or less popular than the average vintage omega watch.

Thanks in advance.

That question is so vague, it’s hard to give you a reasonable reply to be honest. Would you want to share what your threshold is for a sale vs keeping it?

Also, do you have a picture of the inside of the caseback / a reference number? I’m afraid there might not be one in it, given it’s a UK made case, but it would help determining the value. Generally, those 9k examples aren’t the most sought-after and I’m afraid “Reconditioned by Omega” is usually an eloquent rephrasing of “more money has been invested in it than it’ll ever be worth”. I’d say maybe ~800€ish if the dial is original / gold value + 150€ parts value if it’s not.

Fellow gave you a wrong number.

9kt is not even consider gold in the majority of countries. Only in the commonwealth countries, but mainly UK, NZ and Australia. Never imported to Canada as far as I know

Two date models on Ebay sold for under $500US. As yours is not a date. Maybe about $400US

Shackman 9k case made in London. Since it has Seamaster on the dial and is probably not a waterproof design something has been swapped or messed about with maybe. If it does have a caseback gasket then maybe it was always a Seamaster but I doubt it.

9k gold (37.5%) is below the minimum that can legally be described as solid gold in certain countries. The USA consider 10K the minimum, parts of Europe used to have 14k as the min I think. Obv the gold has value even at 9k but it makes it a tough sell outside the uk.

In my opinion, if it’s recently serviced by omega and you have some paperwork / receipt to show that, than it’s not impossible to get 1000 USD and maybe a little more on eBay if you get a few people bidding. I haven’t seen anyone in the thread point to anything specifically “wrong” with the watch so if the dial/hands are correct then I think your target market are people looking for a serviced vintage watch. People wanting something to wear at a wedding or maybe who have a loved one born in 59.

Sure they might sell for far less than that on eBay but most are going to need $500 of service after.

I don’t know if you’ll see 2000CAD, if you were an established vintage watch seller that had a track record of selling serviced pieces you might be able to get closer to that number.

On the other hand, eBay prices are so nonsensical maybe you’ll end up selling it for way more than anyone could have guessed.

If that was a sub second I’d take it off your hands today 😀 I am somehow lacking a sub second watch.

Thanks for all the input. I think I found the answer I was looking for: its a decent watch, but not something that advanced collectors would fight over. I have the servicing paperwork and it is very clean. It also has a bit a nice story behind its initial gifting with an inscription on the back (not something that would melt the hearts of scrappers and gadget geeks).

My hope in buying it was to learn a bit while I owned it and then move it along. Looks as though I will be able to accomplish both.
