58’ 2846, with 60’s dial? Or a redial working from a bad reference!? Or both!

The hour markers seem to have paint on them which if so then it's a clear sign of a redial .

What kind of paint do you see? Which colour?
The only "paint" on this dial is the print of the wording and seconds track. The dial´s "body" is galvanically silvered not painted.
What you think to be paint are reflexions on the end of the markers.

Looks like a service dial.
I had hoped this might be mentioned! Thought maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but seemed the most logical explanation to me. Thanks

Nice watch, but it does seem to be a redial. The 'M' in 'Automatic' was the giveaway. Here is an Omega Seamaster with the 501 movement (same as yours) that has an untouched dial: https://brusselsvintagewatches.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Omega-seamaster-vintage-2846-1.jpg - Pay a close attention to the letter M.
The M was the first thing I noticed, along with the lack of Applied logo. However after looking through ebay i have found quite a few examples of later models with this style of M. Of course, I cant be sure that theyre not all be redials too! Thanks

When a noob posts a watch pic, three things are likely to happen:

1) A member, who may or may not know what they are talking about, will say it is a redial.
2) A member, who may or may not know what they are talking about, will say it is over polished.
3) Eventually, someone who does know what he is talking about will give you a good answer.

I would tread water a bit and wait for number 3.

well, IMO it's a redial (the minute markers are not straight enough, the font is not good enough). Those hands have lume but the markers don't.

It seems my little watch is dividing opinion here! Great learning curve for me, thanks to all that have contributed so far 😀

Part of the problem is that your photos appear to have severe compression artifacts that are making the printing look wonky.

I think we can agree the dial isn’t original.
Based on picture 1 I’d say it’s a later service dial, likely early-mid 70’s.
Picture 2 makes it looks like a redial as the quality is poor.

Thanks for your input David. I did state in the title that i suspect it is not an original dial. I was just hoping to understand a little more about the clues when looking for a service dial or redial, and to see what you all thought of it really. Cheers

Saw it, and while Erich clearly makes the case that there is no paint on the markers, I was not sure he was definitive in stating that the dial had not been redone. But there is no doubt he belongs in the No. 3 category 😀.
