The price puts it on par with some auctions in recent years once you factor out the auction house commission. That said... he's got the same watch on chrono24 for 28,000 Euro, or around $36K

Pictures are very limited... should also be noted he has a 2998 also for sale with a very brown dial, and replacement parts on it. I'm not going to comment on this one as honestly its just above my pay grade.

That's the best looking of all the vintage manual wind Speedmasters, but for that money I could buy a Breguet AND a handful of blue chip vintage pieces.

I know what you're saying, but the Breguet will sink like a rock if you buy new, and they're hard to sell at the best of times so you'd have to be willing to keep it against your flipping tendencies. The other blue chip pieces wouldn't appreciate like an all original (not saying this one is, I honestly don't know) 2915, was reading a post on another forum made by a dealer saying that every time he lists a Planet Ocean or a Seamaster or a Datejust or GMT-Master, he gets a couple of watchers, maybe 6-10 by end of auction, but every time he lists a Speedmaster Pro he gets at least 30, and the older ones go dramatically north from there. There's just so much demand for that whole line.

Incidentally, the seller is the same guy that's trying to unload this collection of random parts as a 2998 and charging over $8,000 for it.

Truly inadequate pictures to judge the watch fully. That being said, bezel and hands appear to be later replacements and dial looks correct but relumed. Beyond that nothing else can be said. Price is absurdly high for what the pictures can show us.

At the other end of the scale, last night I spotted a newly listed Speedy with a scratched up crystal... and a glimmer from an applied Omega logo caught my eye.

On closer inspection it looked like a correct 105.003 being sold with a starting price of £300. I sent a pm to ask what price he wanted to sell for & by this afternoon the listing was ended... Someone must have ploughed in with a solid offer, but I bet they still got it at a great price.

Here it is, in case anyone wants to console me that it wasn't the bargain it looked like ;)

It's on days like this, I wish my cashflow was better

I'd look for pre-owned, and who said I would flip it? ;) I don't flip everything, just the non-keepers. I've owned the Breitling since March of '08. No plans on selling the VC either (sorry Steve), and I think I've got a great 1 -2 punch of vintage APs. Flipping is just my way of trying a lot of watches on the way to owning the perfect watches.

I think the issue here is in 5 years, the 2915 will probably appreciate 100% and the pre-owned brequet will at best keep its value.

$41,400 for that 2915-1. No photo of the movement and no movement s/n. Everything I can see looks new except for the case and bracelet. That store has 2 2998's and this 2915 up on ebay and they are all way overpriced.
