At the risk of repeating a common theme or even leading with the chin, what, aside of the cost difference, would push you towards a buy preference for either a 5513 (1966-70) or towards a 1665?

Love my T 39 Crystal, bigger Case, Date, Helium Valve and the Caseback with engraving.😁

But a 5513 is a nice watch to.....😉😉

😗 5513😗
As others say, a bit smaller and less text on dial...
Nice! Is that a maxi dial?

If so, I'd amend my recommendation to '5513 maxi dial' 😁

Can I say that it all depends on the watch...

Case polish, dial, patina, condition, etc. is what drives me versus necessarily the reference.

A mediocre 1665 vs a killer 5513...5513 all day and vice versa.

I have a 1665 and absolutely love the watch. That being said, I had and sold a 5513 and dearly miss it. A Maxi 5531 with creamy patina and thick case with bevels is thing of beauty.

1665 money and you are in the 5512 realm, and I have to say that is my favorite vintage Sub...those 4 lines and no date transform the watch IMO.

You cannot go wrong with either, and I find vintage Rolex like I do redheads...they are either hot or not, with very little middle ground.

Buy a watch that gets your shorts tight...you will know it when you see it.

😀😁😜
Yes, it is. Lemrich dial.
Someone call it the very first maxi, others call it mark 3 (based on the research made on military dial I think).

They just had this exact thread over at TRF. Folks were split down the middle.
All other things equal, it comes down to size, more or less.
Best to try them both in person-the dweller is not for every wrist size.

Totally agree. The SD was unmanageable on my skinny wrist, as it wore too 'tall' and was heavy. The 5513 was perfect.

I thought it was a "5513 or Red Sub" thread over there? Maybe I missed it?

5513 is less top heavy. Better fit for most wrist.

@blubarb are you in the market for one?

Yep, I am pretty certain that I am after a 5513 matte if the right one comes up. Any leads? 👎
