It's a caliber 12.68Z stop seconds from around 1938. Don't know much on pricing of these, but I do know Longines in-house chronographs like this are highly sought after.

Thank you, Dennis. Seller states the crown is original but it looks like a different color than the case, it does go with the seconds marking ring nicely though :)

Noticed that too and doubt it's original. It should be stainless, not gold.

Crown isn't original, and I doubt handset is either. Check your pm, I have a pdf to send you about mov't.

These are really lovely watches. The 30-31mm gold filled examples often come up on ebay and fetch 1-1500. The 12.68z stop was also housed in a to-die-for 47mm stainless with a center minute hand, and trades 15-25k. This one, I believe should trade 1500-2500.

Thank you for the information, Larry, I am reading the articles now. Longines chronographs are so beautiful, I hope I get to own one some day! I gave it my top price but declined. Will have to pass...

Got a nice cleaning? I have a question: Are those large brown spots lume plots?

Yes they are, Alex. And the hands were also lumed at one point. Possible military application? Here are the details from Longines, who are just great at providing information.
The serial number 5’653’870 identifies a wristwatch in stainless steel.
It is fitted with a Longines chronograph caliber 12.68Z Stop that was first produced in 1938.
It was invoiced to Messrs.’ Baume, who were for many years our agent for the UK, on the 07.07.1938.
Thus one took some work to get back in shape, but it was well worth the time and expense.
These seem to be popular with Japanese boutiques. Google 12.68z stop and you might chance upon a few for sale.
    Best of luck
    Larry

Nice, and unusual example. The one you are working on, I mean.

In my experience, the seller of the piece under discussion is pretty free with parts substitutions, and not terribly scrupulous about authenticity - consistent with what has been discussed in this thread.

Thanks again, Larry. Like the patina on yours and the lume plots are really interesting that they don't seem to relate to the dial at all. I guess the military just bought a bunch of these and just lume it in their own equipment depot?

And Lou, thanks for the tip. I got a watch from this seller before and based on what I have research, all parts seems to be authentic, that is why I do check his store occasionally...the watch market is a minefield.

i should have added a cautionary note about seller as well. Though i dont see much more than incorrect handset and crown, the seller has been known for some questionable-cobbled- watch examples.
