45 years ago today, July 20, 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first to land on the moon, while Mike Collins orbited above. And Omega made its mark with the first watch on the moon! Our beloved Speedmaster Professional. 6 hours after landing, on July 21, Neil set foot on the surface. To me, this was the greatest human achievement, and still is as of today.

That day profoundly impacted me. I was 5 years old (almost 6), and I sat memorized in front of that black and white TV watching the entire mission. This set the direction for my life in many ways, I watched so much Star Trek I could recite every line from every episode (which annoyed my sisters to no end). I later pursued an education in the sciences. I worked for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace after college, in the late 80's and early 90's, on the Delta rocket program, and have generally been looking up at the stars for 45 years.

Little did I know, I would later inherit my grandfathers '67 Speedy, which eventually piqued my interest in horology and brought me to this forum. Everyone should be wearing their Speedmaster's with pride on this anniversary. Mine is with Al getting serviced, or it would be on my wrist (Al, I'm in serious Speedy withdrawal man!!!!). I think I will visit the Omega AD today and give that 45th anniversary Speedy a serious courtship... but, is it lust or is it true love (I can't tell).

+1. Mine's not a Moonwatch, but it's still a Speedy today for me.

It is replica (sigh....a very dilute word meaning) of original CK2915, which also part of Mission patch Speedy Pro LE set. I would say it is a moonwatch LE.

    Only time will tell.

I see quite a few of the Moon To Mars Editions in AD's I think it's a watch you either love or hate.

Well, I knew it would be dangerous to go to the Omega Boutique today, given this is the actual anniversary day of the moon landing... and yep, I decided that all the cosmic tumblers had aligned just right, and if I was ever going to do it, today had to be it. IMG_20140720_181951_882.jpg

Sorry for the terrible pic, I was in a hurry. What finally did it for me was seeing this watch on the Titanium bracelet (whoever posted that pic the other day, you just cost me a lot of money!!!! Bracelet is on its way, until it arrives the strap will do just fine. And since I was lighting money on fire anyway, I also bought a Tintin for my son for his graduation next year (shh, don't tell him I'll be wearing it a little bit before grad date next spring). To say I was excited (and freaked out) would be an understatement. It's cool having all the paperwork, and cards, dated July 20 2014.

Oh, that is sweet!! Lovely piece, doesn't matter what strap/bracelet combination-wear it in good health!

Since you are the first to admit to buying one on the anniversary, can we just call you "Buzz"?
