I tried the first omega in space 39.7mm watch recently, and the size did feel really good on my skinny wrist.
Although, I am still drawn to the larger 42mm with the plastic crystal. Both watches are large to me, perhaps my fellow members here can help me decide, because clearly I cannot...

I have the 42mm and its a beautiful watch. I had the same fear as you did, tried on a 39mm seamaster and it fitted like a glove, having slightly larger wrists than you do the 42mm didnt look out of place and it won me over in the end.

You said yourself 39mm felt good. Which ever watch puts a smile on your face, which ever watch keeps that smile on your face when you hand over your money. If you buy the 39mm and walk out thinking shit i wanted the 42mm.. or vis versa then you know you made a mistake, deep down you already know which watch you want !

I like the 39mm on your wrist.

Honestly, both look great on you! Not a simple choice. If there were some other features of the watch (beyond size appearance) that inclined you more toward one than the other, that might be the deciding factor.

I think someone has posted a similar question in the past. You are going to get votes for both from this crowd. :)
The 39.7 looks better on your wrist. Such a great watch. If it felt better on your wrist, I would go for it.

If i understand the watches right, the dial and bezel are the same size, it's just the crown guard that makes the difference. They are basically going to wear the same (which as tool watches means smaller than a dress watch would). Pick the one you like, they'll both look good...

try the 42mm with a strap rather than the bracelet. sometimes the bracelet over-emphasises the size of the watch.

I'd prefer the 39.7 as a reasonable facisimile of the original pre-pro but you're the one that's wearing it.

    I prefer hesalite(42) to sapphire (39).

39 looks a little bit better on your wrist. But 42 looks totally fine as well. You can't go wrong here :).

both of them are nice choices.

42mm is the most classic choice but fois is also a great watch and certainly a more rare one.
having said that, if i could only have one of two that would be the 42mm.
with a plexi and solid back:thumbsup:

Yes thats my understanding too. Its just the extra 2.3mm of metal on the pusher side that makes the standard model measure 42. It effectively wears like a 40mm watch. My vote goes to the classic speedy with hesalite.

FOIS looks good size wise as a bit smaller on lug to lug distance. What I still don't like a lot of the FOIS are those rather long looking lugs! The idea of wearing the 42mm Speedmaster on leather is a good one, I was torn between speedy sizes (reduced, racing, professional and FOIS) on my pretty round 7 1/8 inch wrist and after a few visits to the AD and flips ended up (at least for now ;)) with a 42mm Speedy

Exactly - it's only the crown guards that make it wider. Same dial & bezel and the rest of case is identical too except for those crown guards.

Well, yes and no. The lug to lug distance is slightly smaller (47.4 mm on regular Speedy, 47.15 mm on FOIS), but the dial, crystal are same as regular 42mm Speedy with sapphire. Also, the legs design is straight versus the "twisted" look on the lugs on the regular Speedy.

Hard one... Both looks ok on you.

I had the same choice 1 1/2 years ago and my wrists are very thin as well (I think around 6 1/4 inch). My choice fell on the FOIS. It just feels smaller. Maybe due to shorter lug to lug measure or lacking crown guards; I don't know. It just feels better on my wrist and I think you should make the decision on the same basis... choose the one that feels best.

I have both. The Professional model is vintage 1974-5. The FOIS a recent purchase.

I have small wrists and hands.

The FOIS is a better fit. In fact, that's why it caught my eye--the Professional is a shade large for me. It belonged to my dad and is my sentimental favorite watch.

The size difference is subtle but the FOIS is truly right for me, from an aesthetic standpoint.

That said, buy either. If you go with the larger watch, your eye will get used to that. A leather strap might also dim down the size. I've noticed this to be true with my vintage Moonwatch (which has the old tapered bracelet). It wears slightly smaller on a black leather Omega strap.

If I were torn between the two, removing the sentimental factor, I'd choose the FOIS. It's just perfect for me.
