36mm De Ville Tresor

Hi all, I know ladies watches isn’t everyone’s thing, but…

I’m looking at a gift for my other half - she doesn’t like a small watch (but not too big) and prefers one on a leather strap. The 36mm De Ville Tesor looks lovely, however, is a quartz movement. Part of me wonders whether quartz detracts from the watch rather than a manual wind but on the other hand wonder if she’d prefer it for ease - I suppose only she’d be able to answer that.

I particularly like the look of the brown steel 428.18.36.60.13.001 - does anyone have any thoughts / experience with these watches, particularly the brown one I’ve mentioned, or even a picture of the 4061 movement which I can’t seem to find.

(I have seen some fairly negative feedback on here already from 2017 but I think was before the watch was released)

Thanks for your help, H.

My wife has an Apple watch, a Tag quartz, a Cartier quartz and a Rolex....The Rolex is the least worn because it's a pain in the ass for her to set and wind. She's simply not into it. She couldn't care less about mechanical vs quartz movements.

My wife likes mechanical watches, but I'm not 100% sure she bothers to wind or set them.

My wife has a mechanical Cartier that her Mom bought her when she was 16. She loves it and it’s the only watch she’s had since. She wears it every day. She’s now 52. That said, she does not know anything about mechanicals and I recently blew her mind when it suddenly started running 5 min fast a day…I demagnetized it, and it immediately reverted to keeping excellent time. So yeah, your other half would probably be fine with a quartz 😉

Made a mistake after I started dating mrs P.......bought her a chocolate Omega and downhill since.

she knows now way too much about mechanical pieces, and has quite a collection, most with a little less "bling". Her grab and go solution is her own watch winder set-up. Only issue is that I get advance the date after February/April/June/September/November other than on her annual calendars. That said, she does have a couple of quartz for skiing/hiking/biking.

Upside however is that she is an enabler......

I don’t see the issue with quartz watches, particularly for people who appreciate the looks and the brand name rather than the movement or the history (that is, normal people )
However, that’s quite a distinctive looking watch, and I think it might be a love it or hate it job. Possibly not ideal for a surprise gift, but one to have presented to your other half as one of a small selection at your dealer, in case she prefers something else.

I have two nice quartz watches ... and several mecanic watches too. Mecanic watches are great! Not a problem to wind them every day. Perhaps you could go together do some shopping and incidentally look at some watches and... test her taste!

Cheers chaps, I think seeing one in person is definitely the way forward, a lot of money for a gift that she might not like or at least as much as another watch.

A friend of mine has given up on mechanical watches so sticking to solar. Quartz has it's place but he couldn't be bothered changing batteries

Exactly ! The best way is to choose with her ! And the both of you will be happy with the gift!!! A no-surprise is better than a ... disappointing surprise ! ( ..and you can make it a surprise if you play well!)

My wife would be hard pressed to wear a mech. She complains bitterly about having to change the time twice a year, let alone winding one every day. I suppose it depends on your wife. Would having the extra steps involved with a mech vs quartz bother or intrigue her? That being said, this is a beautiful De Ville imho.
