...just like the ad says...I guess 67 was GP’s banner year for observatory testing.

Oddly enough, I have no hi-beat watches...but are there any higher beat than 36000?

Oh no, it wasn't confined to such a brief period. GP had tremendous success with their HF Chronometers for a number of years, and far more than any other HF manufacturer.

I suddenly wonder whether high-beat movements are not only accurate, but also stimulate hair follicles...

    It runs faster than that.

“The entire system runs at a very high frequency: 15 hertz, or 108,000 vph, with a power reserve of about 60 hours. Performance is remarkable; because there are no balance pivots, nor a conventional spring, positional rate variation is virtually nil, and with only 6 degrees of amplitude, maximum (vs. 300+ in a conventional balance) the system shows a maximum variation in rate of only ± 0.5 seconds over 48 hours.”

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/zenith-defy-lab-oscillator-introducing

My feeling is that it is a totally different type of movement, somewhere between a traditional levered movement and a Bulova tuning fork oscillator.

Girard Perregaux…Deeply undervalued, in terms of superlative function AND design

Always a revered ‘niche’ favourite of mine,…and long overdue a revision in appreciation, & value

    Just one Hodinkee ‘feature’ away…

You think if I get one of them NASA straps I could fasten a hi-beat to my head?

I read half way down the first page and thought this thread should just be dedicated to UltraChrons. Then the other brands made themselves known but the UltraChrons came back strong ...

I recently read a compilation of old British news paper strips featuring a detective.
One of the cockney criminal class was complaining that his watch was so old that it only kept time if laid flat so he kept it on top of his head under his cap.
You could give that a try.
