Gents, I am considering a 354 advertised on a local auction site and would appreciate any comments. My take: Case looks a bit over-polished Crown does not look original Dial: * The 'Seamaster' looks odd in that the text does not look like the correct script * There is no 'T', yet the hands and hour markers are lumed (but this T thing has always confused me) Correct? Anything else? The seller says that the hands are replated and that the case is French produced, which might explain the lack of an 0.75 (18K) mark.
Over polished like a soap... Second hand is not original, should be blued. Indeed a French custom case which is worth less than a Swiss one. Not a very interesting piece, but depends on the price...
I see a couple stampings inside the case back, but the definition of your pictures is not clear enough for me to be able to read them. A karat gold case without a stamping to identify the purity of the alloy? Many jurisdictions stamp an image of a sort which would equate to karat alloy, but there is usually also a karat stamping of some sort. Make a low ball offer and see what happens.
If it is, as I suppose the screw down back model, there should be around 23g. of gold. If the snap back model around 20 g. 26€ per gram as of today.
One of the hallmarks could be the French eagle head. If so, all is good concerning the amount of gold (18k). The case may be polished, but I do not think it had sharp edges in the first place. So it may not be that much polished. That said, it depends on the price.
I'd pass, I like 18kt French cased Omega's when they have the old Omega logo on the inside of the case back and the dials have Fab.Suisse on them, but the OP's watch has neither
I note that this dial has 'fab. suisse' on it too, where as the sellers pics do not. Would this be another indication of a redial, in addition to the Seamaster font?
