321 Seamasters, saved from the breakers

Well its Sunday evening, and not much on our forum for a while that interested me, so I thought I would make a post to try and offer a little variety.

I was trying to get a good photo of this:

Its a sweet little watch I picked up, by accident as usual, and then I sent it to STS for a full service after the crystal popped off. So I was going to sell it - another Golden Squirrel watch. However I cant seem to get any nice photos and I have to give up and do something else. It isn't worth much so it can wait. Anyone who sees my sales knows I don't make my money out of watches.

I noticed a WTB for a 2907, and I thought, I've got one of those...Do I want to sell? Not really, sorry.

So I got out my 321 Seamasters - I sent all of them to STS, getting them all serviced before Omega do something stupid and prevent me from having my watches serviced where I want.

Over the years I collected these, originally as donors. In the end I kept them whole and the values rose, and I do not like destroying a perfectly good watch for the movement.

Anyway here they are, all with a nice guarantee and freshly serviced.
(none for sale)

Have a good end of August everyone.

Back to serious watch hunting in September I suppose, I am betting the markets are going to fall out of bed in a huge way. So maybe a few watches coming onto the market?

I'll be very happy not to break these up. With so many Franken speedies, hopefully it won't be nescessary.

I love this.

There was I thinking that I was a little crazy to have four of these, and lo and behold, I am not the only one!

Aaaaah another one on the never ending list. Although part of me is thinking that I should just buy modern watches from now on because I don't want to be in a situation of not being able to get my watches fixed by skilled watchmakers who restore sympatheticly but instead, have to send them to omega who potentially will use who knows what when servicing them.

Pick up a service dial and set of hands, swap them on while shipping to Bienne, and swap off when returned. 😉

You don't need to have dibs because these Seamaster 321s and 861s are still out there for sale. I purchased all of mine this year and all cost less (some significantly less) than $2,000. Straight lugs and 321 movements at a big discount compared with the Speedies.

Thing is though, if you bought a speedy that needed a movement, will you be able to resist the urge to look at these Seamasters and think of which one you love the least...

Actually probably yes.

The price of 321 movements has actually come down in my experience.
Two years ago they were about $1500, and I have seen recent sales of movements for under $1000.
I have bought at both levels, and I there were other trades at the same times for similar pieces/prices.

There are also old Tissot and Lemania chronos with their version of a 321 movement. Aren't many of the, non signature, parts identical to the Omega version?
