My Diver has just stopped.
No warning, no slowing, nothing.
Out of the blue, worn day in day out since April ‘19, but just stopped.
Tried rattling it, winding it, hitting it on my forehead…nada.
Feeling a bit let down as I was hoping to run it a bit longer than 6 years before a service.

Off to the shop I guess.

well, Omega recommends a complete service every 5 to 8 years, so your watch appears to have failed just past the mid point of the recommended service interval range - I'd say this Diver gave you a good run for a day in, day out on a 6-yr duty! I suspect you are not a first.

We definitely haven't had any real reports of Cal 8800s having issues thus far but I guess they're still relatively recent, yours would be one of the older ones. Sorry to hear it happened to you, maybe worth having a local independent watchmaker do the service so you can get an honest post mortem on it, would be curious what was the issue,

You might be one of the first people I've seen report a watch stop! Within the last year or so I have seen a couple mentions of seal failures, someone on here just posted about their 2018 having a seal failure the other day. I haven't seen much in the way of reported 8400 failures either, so maybe you just got a bad roll of the dice.

Sorry to hear it- can't be fun! It'll be nice to have peace of mind once you get it back though!

Yeah, in two minds, use Christian Watchguy who’s done most of my work or send it back to the mothership for the full refurb? Will ponder for a bit. On the upside at least I now have to rotate the draw full of orphan watches!

Does it feel a lot heavier now?
Now you mention it, it does and my wallet already feels lighter. Could there be some connection?

I had a much older pocket watch seize up on me last summer.

I had just made a magnetic money clip and both items must have tried to occupy the same space.

My demagnetizer did the job.

Try that just in case?

Sounds like you need to take the watch to a service centre. Could be something simple, but likely needs a service. Six to seven years doesn't seem too bad. I know Omega advertised that the co-axial can go longer between services (or was that just something I read?).

FWIW, my 2531.80 went 9 years between services and ran well (within chronometer spec). In the end, the hacking mechanism stopped working, and the watch started losing significant time (-25 spd). I just received my watch back a few months ago from the service. So hopefully I can go another 9 years? LOL.
