Sellers description is a bit disengenous, for “a watch collector of many years”

What is really interesting, is that the Seller would accept Bitcoin & Ethereum

Evidently Digital currencies are beginning to move mainstream

Hmm, everything the seller ever sold is like $300 or less, and then suddenly a $16K sale. Smells.

I would submit that nobody knows what 2998's are worth right now... the market is highly dynamic.

I also think this uncertainty is because the gap between the very nice examples (all original in great condition) and the so-so ones is widening in terms of price.

What price would you have posted this watch at if you owned it and wanted to sell? Not my watch, but I have encountered the same problem as the seller in the past. You have something that trades rather infrequently and a lack of comps for a piece in similar condition

Well, in fact 2998's are relatively rare (around 8500) so don't be fooled that a clump have been listed lately.
The seller is aware enough to know that his hands looked wrong and honest enough to mention that. He also got a price that is more or less market for this later model in fair condition. Some would pay half that amount just for the lolli :)

A pretty good deal for someone with a 2998 -1 or -2 or -3 who really wants a lollipop
