I bought this 2998 some months ago from the grandson of the original owner, all parts (except the crown) are original. I already posted some pictures on the forum.

Actually I put the watch in my safe and never wore it, but now I wonder what to do with it. The watch had been serviced 20 or 30 years ago. The crystal is dirty and has some scratches.

    What should I do ?
    1) I leave it as is, in my safe, and I don't even clean it.
    2) I give it to a friend (who is an excellent watchmaker) for a service + new crystal.
    3) Same as 2) but I keep the original crystal and polish it.

Number 2 for me :) But keep the original crystal in the safe. Be careful with the delicate lume on the hands.

Take it to STS, even if your friend is an excellent watchmaker, I would still want the best possible person to service such a beautiful watch

Damn shame to leave that sitting in a safe.

I'd try and opt for 2, but go for 3 if the crystal is crack or has deep scratches. I tend to see crystals the same as pushers and don't really mind if they're swapped at service, unless it's a completely original example. I've got quite a few old logo crystals that I've removed, but I'm not entirely sure why I keep them.

If you're not going to wear it, stick it in the safe as is.

Otherwise, get it serviced - and make sure they're damn good.

Personally, I'd change the crystal, but keep the old one for sure.

    4.) sell it to me!

seriously, I'd clean it up and wear it. pity for it to be locked away. watches were meant to be worn.

Locking it away? I have tried this with my Ed White. It lasted 5 days.
