These parts are still available from Omega IIRC, are there any differences between the new part and old one?

The ring (rehaut?) is part of the crystal, isn't it?

Maybe it is ? Haven't ever seen one ? I have a 145.0022 case and a Frankensteins Omega speedy HPD . With a new dial and new alpha hands . I wanted to change the the crystal for a 2998 crystal with the wide chromed ring . But i won't fit this case said Omega . So i was thinking i could remove the ring from a 2998 crystal and put it inside a 145.022 crystal ? On the 145.0022 crystal i can remove the black ring .
That is my little project . Franken o yes indeed ::screwloose::

I have actually seen that done and one interesting difference is the height of the chrome ring is less than the height of the black ring so you end up with this weird gap between the dial and the chrome ring around the edge, where the black one would normally meet the dial nicely.

The 2998 crystal will fit the 145.022 case, I have fitted the steel ring crystal to a few of mine. The part is PZ5078.

I'm not sure about dsio's comments about the gap, I never noticed it on mine

That won't look any good .With a gap . Maybe looking better as is . This is a picture from the watchmaker that has put it together .I thought it looked a little naked around the edge so i was thinking a chromed ring would make it look better .

Omega said no it doesn't fit . So the watchmaker won't do it .

I actually did it with a 145.012 case not a 145.022, its subtle but its there when you look at an angle, I'll see if I can find it in some old photos

This is my standard 145.022 case and dial. I just looked at my panda dial with the silver ring and there is no gap but dont have one with close up. However on the panda dial the chrome ring starts to cover the 'swiss made' writing at the bottom as you can see with the silver dial one

Wow:) . That is looking good .Love the broad arrow . I shall talk to my watchmaker to see if he can't give it try ? . It's that look i am after . Otherwise i will order just the crystal and mount it afterward. I have an all original speedy that needs a new crystal so i can do a swap anyway . Hopping i get my watch soon so i can post some nice pictures . Good to see i am not alone in the franken Omega world .

I just measured the inside on the two different crystals, the normal black one, the ID of the ring is 30.8mm and the ID of the silver ring is 30.2mm.

The only difference in the crystals I can see is that the outside shoulder of the black one is fractionally taller than the silver one, maybe about 0.15mm difference and the overall height of the crystal is different by about the same amount.

The OD of the crystals are both the same at about 34.2mm, actually I just swapped over the rings too to be certain they fit each other crystal. :D

Haven't actually done that until now. Left the watch case to my watchmaker yesterday. Asking him if he could change the crystals over . He said okey. But then he give me a call today. Saying the new 2998 crystal won't fit this case. It's 0,1 mm to small. But maybe i can swap the tensionrings from the 2998 crystal to the 145.022 crystal? And that worked. So i have learn that the crystals won't fit but the tensionrings can be swapped over from the 2998 crystal to the 145.022 crystals :)
