Hi OF members, this morning I was offered a 2998-62 in average condition. I could take some shots with my smartphone. Can anyone give advice on authenticity of this one? Asking price was €17k, any comments on that?

    And who knows more about this bracelet? It looks very unique to me, some military type maybe? IMG_1743.jpg IMG_1742.jpg IMG_1739.jpg IMG_1732.jpg IMG_1737.jpg IMG_1736.jpg IMG_1729.jpg IMG_1741.jpg IMG_1735.jpg IMG_1738.jpg IMG_1740.jpg IMG_1734.jpg

    Thanks for your help!

    What's the movement serial #?

Apart from the crown the watch looks legit to me. Hands may have been relumed.

Referring to the asking price, the condition of the dial is poor.

Don't know what bracelet this is, but I can see a manufacturer's stamp in the last picture...

Sorry, couldn't open the case and no documents were available. Thank you for your comments.

    Paging @Spacefruit

I see no flags... but SN would be needed.

Just received the SN: 19.834.xxx Waiting for more pictures as well.

Are there any 2998's out there for much lower? Given this condition, what would be the right price I should offer?

    Look at Table B here : http://www.moonwatchonly.com/omega-...view-of-the-speedmaster-moonwatch-production/

Seems to be a match for a -6/-61/-62.

That's a very subjective question, based on how one values this particular dial IMHO. You should offer what you think is fair, and try to reach the point where the seller thinks its also fair, such that you both walk away fair and square and happy at the end of the day. However I would say this is closer to 'running' than 'good' on the SM101 price chart, but I am no expert, and YMMV. I assume you are a private collector who is looking to have the joy of wearing and owning a lovely 2998, as opposed to someone looking to make a quick buck...

Edit : FWIW I would have a hard time loving that dial ...

Thank you, I was under this impression too.
Indeed, i want to keep for several years, not flip. With an asking price of €17K (or $19,3k) this is closer to the running indication of $16k than the $30k for good condition according to the SM101 chart.

Yeah, I think the serial # matches the reference.

While I like the case, the dial is the killer for me. It is very hard to find a better dial and that, at least for me, is difficult to assess in monetary terms.

I do not know what budget you have and whether it should be just a -62, but if I were you, I would look for a better watch.

Look at this one, for example:

    https://www.chrono24.de/omega/speedmaster-ref-2998-aus-dem-jahr-1961--id10136430.htm

I don't want to be smart, but you had asked me above and these are just my thoughts...

However, if decided to buy this watch, I'd have in mind at least 3 - 4k to save up for a nicer dial.

The main objective is to purchase a 321 since I have none in my collection. Recently sold a 145.022-69 because when going vintage, I'd rather stick to a 321. First choice would be an Ed White but this 2998 coincidently crossed my path. I want to trade in another watch as well so that's why a f2f deal is the best option.
Thanks for the C24 link, I applied for the price.
I really appreciate your comments! That's the whole purpose of asking for advice on this forum, isn't it?

Speedy 101 running condition.....Its a rough old tool watch but on reflection an attractive one. I've reconsidered the dial and edited accordingly.

I personallly kind of dig this dial. Those lume plots, while admittedly not very healthy, give the watch an interesting, and I think attractive look.

Would want to see it in-hand.
