A rare opportunity to acquire an honest, clean, straight 2998 from a private source. (Me).

Condition:
Dial - Correct, excellent condition and colour, original plots showing age.

Hands - curved lume slots, and curved cross section, which I associate with original. (I believe these are original). The stick hands were replaced by STS and aged. (One was missing when I bought it)

Bezel, Original, 1960's pulsation bezel. Much rarer than a DO90 bezel. Note the line between the numbers and the markings, indicating it is an old vintage bezel.

Crown and pushers were retained at service.

Case is worn, and when it was serviced at STS we decided to brush the sides, after very slightly straightening the profiles. This is not a refinished case, but there has been work on it - no more than most, and in my opinion done much more sympathetically than all those watches sold as unpolished, that clearly are. Another story. If I was going to refinish it you would not see those little dings - they would be gone.

It is an overall extremely attractive watch.

Movement:
A lucky number surely? I am fairly sure the movement was untouched - look at the undamaged screw heads. Its lovely.

Column wheel in perfect condition:

During service some parts were replaced, and they are included:

Provenance.

Purchased by me from USA in 2015 as a project. (missing subdial hands, non running). Apart from servicing at STS (T46011, 25/02/2106, £562.60) It has remained in my safe ever since - in a temperature and humidity controlled environment.

Delivery and Payment

Is included, but face to face welcome. It is my experience with this value watch that a conversation on the phone will satisfy both parties, after swapping documents.

Payment by Bank Transfer is preferred, if so I propose we both exchange ID copies and speak by phone to feel comfortable.

Terms

I only sell to refocus my collection. I am not motivated by profit and so I have no reason to embellish or over describe. I have been on ebay since 2002 with 100% feedback. I have bought and sold a few watches on OF and you can find my feedback by searching my username. I am the author of Speedmaster101.com and so you can understand protecting my reputation is first.

Price includes insured delivery in the USA, and will include delivery elsewhere unless you have some expensive needs.

Watch is in UK until Sunday, Then USA. Delivery from Hong Kong in March can be arranged for Asia.

Returns are welcome if you don't cost me anything to get it back to me and the watch is in the same condition as it arrived with you.

I am a private collector who rarely sells. When I do, most of the time my watches sell very quickly, and to the first person that PM's me with the words, "I will buy this watch now at your price".

In the past several people have been upset because although they are the first to reply, they ask if I can do a better price - meanwhile someone has agreed my price.

I am not in the slightest bit offended by offers, but remember that they will only make sense if the watch remains unsold after a few days.

Delivery can usually be facilitated almost anywhere

Price is £18,500 to me - bank wire preferred to my HK bank.

If you are nervous about Bank Wire then you are not ready to make this trade. (Which I totally respect - if you dont know me, why would you?)

Some FAQ:
Why are you selling?
I have three 2998-62. I am raising some cash to pay my Auction bills from last year, where I went crazy and bought some rare dials.
Are you a Dealer?
No.
What would you say counts against this watch?
The case is slightly worn and has been finished. But when compared to other 2998's it is very similar. The difference is I am telling you exactly what has happened to it.
What parts do you know to be replaced?
The movement bridge. A little wheel, and the crystal. The movement ring was also replaced. The pushers look in good condition, but I did not replace them - they might have been previously.
Would you sell this watch if you did not have another 2998-62?
No - it is a lovely looking watch that all fits together.
Is it a bargain?
No. But it is not overpriced, do check around the market. I have presented the watch as honestly as I can, telling you exactly what I know to have been done to it - no surprises later when you show a watchmaker or informed collector.
Will you take it back?
Absolutely. You have a three day viewing period. I don't want to force anyone to keep something they don't like. You must return it to me in exactly the same condition as I shipped. If you are not sure, though, come and see it first.

OH, so tempting, birth year and all. But truth is, I'd be nervous wearing it, so it's not for me.
Beautiful, though. And a great example of what sales listings should look like.

That presents very well. A handsome watch indeed.

The vintage pulsations bezel really finishes it off. Unlike DoN bezels, I think these vintage pulsations/decimals/telemeters etc are still undervalued.

Very much regretting the fact I can't afford this right now.

Wow, was this the beauty you brought to the Siena Tavern Chicago GTG in 2015? If so, I got to take my pulse with it...😉
